Lie About Hanuman Chalisa

? The Common Claim

"Hanuman Chalisa Contains the Exact Distance from Earth to Sun"

The Actual Truth
A popular internet claim asserts that the 16th century devotional hymn Hanuman Chalisa, composed by Goswami Tulsidas, accurately calculated the distance between the Earth and the Sun centuries before modern astronomy. Supporters of this Theory focus on the line:                     《Yug Sahastra Yajana Par Bhanu》 and interpret it as a mathematical formula: >Yug = 12,000                              >Sahastra = 1,000                      >Yojana = 8 miles  Calculation:                        12,000 × 1,000 × 8= 96000000miles     Since the average distance between the Earth and the Sun in approximately 93 million miles, it is claimed that the Hanuman Chalisa contains advanced astronomical knowledge.    Now let's see Reality :                  The Claim is based on a modern reinterpretation of a devotional verse rather than the original meaning intended by the author. In traditional commentaries and authoritative translations,  including those published by 'Gita Press', the verse is understood as a poetic description of Hanuman Ji's extraordinary power and divine abilities.  The line refers to the famous episode from Hanuman ji's childhood when he mistook the Sun for a ripe fruit and leaped toward it. The verse does not present a scientific equation, astronomical calculation or hidden numerical code. Its purpose is devotional and narrative rather than scientific.

Detailed Investigation

Now let's see what Verse means as per Gita Press,

Yug Sahastra Yojana Par Bhanu, Leelyo Tahi Madhur Pahl Jaanu.

Meaning: "The Sun was at an immensely great distance, yet Hanuman reached it effortlessly,  mistaking it for a sweet fruit"

The focus of the verse is Hanuman Ji's Divine strength and fearlessness.

Linguistc Analysis

1. Yuga (Yug)                                                In Sanskrit and Awadhi literature, the word YUG commonly refers to an age, era or vast period of time. Although it can sometimes represent a numerical value in specific cosmological contexts, there is no indication that Tulsidas intended it as a mathematical constant in this verse.

2. Sahastra                                                While Sahastra literally means 1,000 classical Sanskrit language frequently uses it figuratively to mean countless, innumerable or extremely large.

3. Yojana                                                        A Yojana was an ancient unit of distance, but its exact value varied considerably across different historical periods and texts. Estimates range from roughly 5 to 9 miles, meaning there was never a universally accepted fixed value.

4. Per Bhanu                                              Per = Far Away, beyond,                            Bhanu = The Sun .........that's all.          Thus, the phrase simply conveys that SUN was very far away.

No Math, All Lie.

Hanuman Chalisa is written by Tulsidas ji telling about Hanuman ji's Kirti, not for education nor as mathematical equations.
