इ॒ष्टं च॒ वा ए॒ष पू॒र्तं च॑ गृ॒हाणा॑मश्नाति॒ यः पूर्वोऽति॑थेर॒श्नाति॑ ॥ (१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जो अतिथि से पहले भोजन कर लेता है, वह अपने में होने वाले इष्टापूर्त कर्मों का फल खा लेता है. संध्या आदि नित्य कर्म इष्ट और किसी प्रयोजन से किए जाने वाले यज्ञ आदि कर्म आपूर्त कहलाते हैं. (१)
EN English Translation
He who eats before the guest eats, he eats the fruits of the favored deeds in him. Sandhya etc. are called daily karma favored and yajna etc. karma done for some purpose are called apoorta. (1)
पय॑श्च॒ वा ए॒ष रसं॑ च गृ॒हाणा॑मश्नाति॒ यः पूर्वोऽति॑थेर॒श्नाति॑ ॥ (२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जो अतिथियों से पहले भोजन करता है, वह अपने घरों के दूध और रस को नष्ट करता है. (२)
EN English Translation
The one who eats before the guests destroys the milk and juice of his houses. (2)
ऊ॒र्जां च॒ वा ए॒ष स्फा॒तिं च॑ गृ॒हाणा॑मश्नाति॒ यः पूर्वोऽति॑थेर॒श्नाति॑ ॥ (३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जो व्यक्ति अतिथि से पहले भोजन कर लेता है, वह अपने घरों के बल और समृद्धि का नाश करता है. (३)
EN English Translation
The person who eats before the guest destroys the strength and prosperity of his homes. (3)
प्र॒जां च॒ वा ए॒ष प॒शूंश्च॑ गृ॒हाणा॑मश्नाति॒ यः पूर्वोऽति॑थेर॒श्नाति॑ ॥ (४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जो अतिथि से पहले भोजन करता है, वह अपने घरों की संतान और पशुओं का भक्षण करता है. (४)
EN English Translation
He who eats before the guest eats the children and animals of his house. (4)
की॒र्तिं च॒ वा ए॒ष यश॑श्च गृ॒हाणा॑मश्नाति॒ यः पूर्वोऽति॑थेर॒श्नाति॑ ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जो अतिथि से पूर्व भोजन करता है, वह अपने घरों की कीर्ति और यश को समाप्त करता है. (५)
EN English Translation
The one who eats before the guest ends the glory and fame of his houses. (5)
श्रियं॒ च॒ वा ए॒ष सं॒विदं॑ च गृ॒हाणा॑मश्नाति॒ यः पूर्वोऽति॑थेर॒श्नाति॑ ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जो अतिथि से पूर्व भोजन करता है, वह अपने घरों की श्री और सौमनस्य का विनाश करता है. (६)
EN English Translation
He who eats before the guest destroys the shri and harmony of his houses. (6)
ए॒ष वा अति॑थि॒र्यच्छ्रोत्रि॑य॒स्तस्मा॒त्पूर्वो॒ नाश्नी॑यात् ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
श्रोत्रिय ब्राह्मण ही वास्तव में अतिथि है. यजमान को चाहिए कि उस से पूर्व भोजन नहीं करे. (७)
EN English Translation
Shrotriya Brahmin is actually the guest. The host should not eat before that. (7)
अ॑शि॒ताव॒त्यति॑थावश्नीयाद्य॒ज्ञस्य॑ सात्म॒त्वाय॑ । य॒ज्ञस्यावि॑च्छेदाय॒ तद्व्र॒तम् ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अतिथि के भोजन कर लेने पर ही यजमान भोजन करे. यज्ञ के निर्वाह एवं यज्ञ का विच्छेद न होने के लिए ही यह व्रत है. (८)
EN English Translation
The host should eat only after the guest has eaten. This fast is only for the sustenance of the yajna and the separation of the yajna. (8)
ए॒तद्वा उ॒ स्वादी॑यो॒ यद॑धिग॒वं क्षी॒रं वा मां॒सं वा तदे॒व नाश्नी॑यात् ॥ (९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
चाहे जितना स्वादिष्ट हो, पर यजमान को गाय का दूध और मांस नहीं खाना चाहिए. (९)
EN English Translation
No matter how delicious, the host should not eat cow's milk and meat. (9)
