प्रा॒वे॒पा मा॑ बृह॒तो मा॑दयन्ति प्रवाते॒जा इरि॑णे॒ वर्वृ॑तानाः । सोम॑स्येव मौजव॒तस्य॑ भ॒क्षो वि॒भीद॑को॒ जागृ॑वि॒र्मह्य॑मच्छान् ॥ (१)

प्रवण देश में उत्पन्न बड़े-बड़े पासे जुआ खेलने के तख्ते पर इधर-उधर बिखरते हुए मुझे आनंदित करते हैं. जीत-हार में हर्ष-शोक जगाने वाला पासा मुझे उसी प्रकार सुख देता है, जिस प्रकार मुंजवान् पर्वत पर उत्पन्न सोमलता का रस पीकर सुख मिलता है. (१)
EN English Translation
The big dice generated in the prone country delight me as they scatter around on the gambling plank. The dice that brings joy and sorrow in victory and defeat gives me happiness in the same way as i get happiness by drinking the juice of somlata produced on mount Munjwan. (1)
न मा॑ मिमेथ॒ न जि॑हीळ ए॒षा शि॒वा सखि॑भ्य उ॒त मह्य॑मासीत् । अ॒क्षस्या॒हमे॑कप॒रस्य॑ हे॒तोरनु॑व्रता॒मप॑ जा॒याम॑रोधम् ॥ (२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
यह पत्नी न मुझसे कभी अप्रसन्न हुई और न इसने कभी मुझसे लज्जा की. यह मेरे मित्रों और मेरे प्रति सुखकारी थी. इस प्रकार सर्वथा अनुकूल पत्नी को भी मैंने एकमात्र पासों के कारण त्याग दिया. (२)
EN English Translation
This wife was never displeased with me, nor did she ever shame me; it was pleasant to my friends and to me. Thus, I also abandoned the perfectly friendly wife because of the only dice. (2)
द्वेष्टि॑ श्व॒श्रूरप॑ जा॒या रु॑णद्धि॒ न ना॑थि॒तो वि॑न्दते मर्डि॒तार॑म् । अश्व॑स्येव॒ जर॑तो॒ वस्न्य॑स्य॒ नाहं वि॑न्दामि कित॒वस्य॒ भोग॑म् ॥ (३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
सास जुआ खेलने वाले की निंदा करती है एवं पत्नी उसे छोड़ जाती है. यदि वह धन मांगे तो उसे कोई देने वाला नहीं मिलता. जिस प्रकार बूढ़े घोड़े का कुछ भी मूल्य नहीं लगता, उसी प्रकार मुझ जुआरी का कहीं आदर नहीं होता. (३)
EN English Translation
The mother-in-law condemns the gambler and the wife leaves him. If he asks for money, he doesn't get a giver. Just as the old horse seems to have no value at all, so my gambler is not respected anywhere. (3)
अ॒न्ये जा॒यां परि॑ मृशन्त्यस्य॒ यस्यागृ॑ध॒द्वेद॑ने वा॒ज्य१॒॑क्षः । पि॒ता मा॒ता भ्रात॑र एनमाहु॒र्न जा॑नीमो॒ नय॑ता ब॒द्धमे॒तम् ॥ (४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
शक्तिशाली पासे जिस जुआरी के धन को लालच की दृष्टि से देखते हैं, उसकी व्यभिचारिणी पत्नी का दूसरे लोग स्पर्श करते हैं. जुआरी के माता, पिता एवं भाई कर्ज मांगने वालों से कहते हैं-“हम इसे नहीं जानते. इसे बांधकर ले जाओ.” (४)
EN English Translation
The powerful dice touch the adulterous wife of the gambler whose wealth is looked at with greed by others. The gambler's parents, fathers, and brothers say to the borrowers, "We don't know this. Tie it up and take it." (4)
यदा॒दीध्ये॒ न द॑विषाण्येभिः परा॒यद्भ्योऽव॑ हीये॒ सखि॑भ्यः । न्यु॑प्ताश्च ब॒भ्रवो॒ वाच॒मक्र॑त॒ँ एमीदे॑षां निष्कृ॒तं जा॒रिणी॑व ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जब मैं निश्चय कर लेता हूं कि जुआ नहीं खेलूंगा, तब मैं आए हुए जुआरी मित्रों को त्याग देता हूं. किंतु जब जुआ खेलने के तख्ते पर फेंके हुए पीले रंग वाले पासे शब्द करते हैं, तब मैं उस स्थान की ओर ऐसे चला जाता हूं, जैसे व्यभिचारिणी स्त्री संकेतस्थान पर पहुंच जाती है. (५)
EN English Translation
When I decide not to gamble, I abandon the gambling friends who have come. But when the yellow dice thrown on the gambling board say the words, I go to that place as if the adulterous woman reaches the signage. (5)
स॒भामे॑ति कित॒वः पृ॒च्छमा॑नो जे॒ष्यामीति॑ त॒न्वा॒३॒॑ शूशु॑जानः । अ॒क्षासो॑ अस्य॒ वि ति॑रन्ति॒ कामं॑ प्रति॒दीव्ने॒ दध॑त॒ आ कृ॒तानि॑ ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जुआरी शरीर से दीप्त होकर एवं यह कहता हुआ जुआघर में जाता है कि कौन धन वाला आया है? मैं उसे जीतूंगा. कभी-कभी पासे जुआरी की कामना पूरी करते हैं और कभी उसके विरोधी जुआरी के अनुकूल कर्म धारण करके उसकी इच्छा पूरी करते हैं. (६)
EN English Translation
The gambler goes into the gambling house, illuminated by the body and saying, "Who has come to the rich man?" I'll win him. Sometimes dice fulfill the desire of the gambler and sometimes his opponents fulfill his desire by holding the gambler's friendly deeds. (6)
अ॒क्षास॒ इद॑ङ्कु॒शिनो॑ नितो॒दिनो॑ नि॒कृत्वा॑न॒स्तप॑नास्तापयि॒ष्णवः॑ । कु॒मा॒रदे॑ष्णा॒ जय॑तः पुन॒र्हणो॒ मध्वा॒ सम्पृ॑क्ताः कित॒वस्य॑ ब॒र्हणा॑ ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
कभी-कभी पासे अंकुश के समान चुभने वाले, हृदय को टुकड़े-टुकड़े करने वाले एवं गरम पदार्थ के समान जलाने वाले बन जाते हैं. पासे जीतने वाले जुआरी के लिए पुत्रजन्म के समान आनंददाता एवं मधु से लिपटे हुए लगते हैं, पर हारने वाले की तो जान निकाल लेते हैं. (७)
EN English Translation
Sometimes the dice become stingers like curbs, tearing the heart to pieces and burning like hot substances. For the gambler who wins the dice, the son seems to be as happy as birth and wrapped with honey, but the loser takes the life of the loser. (7)
त्रि॒प॒ञ्चा॒शः क्री॑ळति॒ व्रात॑ एषां दे॒व इ॑व सवि॒ता स॒त्यध॑र्मा । उ॒ग्रस्य॑ चिन्म॒न्यवे॒ ना न॑मन्ते॒ राजा॑ चिदेभ्यो॒ नम॒ इत्कृ॑णोति ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
सच्चे धर्म वाले सविता देव जिस प्रकार आकाश में विचरण करते हैं, उसी प्रकार तिरेपन पासे जुआ खेलने के तख्ते पर क्रीड़ा करते हैं. ये पासे उग्र एवं क्रोधी के भी वश में नहीं आते. राजा तक इन पासों के सामने झुकता है. (८)
EN English Translation
Just as Savita Dev, who is of true religion, wanders in the sky, the three-fold dice play on the gambling plank. These dice do not even come under the control of the furious and the grumpy. The king leans up in front of these dice. (8)
नी॒चा व॑र्तन्त उ॒परि॑ स्फुरन्त्यह॒स्तासो॒ हस्त॑वन्तं सहन्ते । दि॒व्या अङ्गा॑रा॒ इरि॑णे॒ न्यु॑प्ताः शी॒ताः सन्तो॒ हृद॑यं॒ निर्द॑हन्ति ॥ (९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
पासे कभी नीचे गिरते हैं और कभी ऊपर उछलते हैं. ये बिना हाथ के होकर भी हाथवालों को पराजित करते हैं. ये दिव्य पासे जुआ खेलने के तख्ते पर फेंके जाते समय अंगार बन जाते हैं. ये छूने में ठंडे हैं, पर हारने वाले के मन को जलाते हैं. (९)
EN English Translation
Dice sometimes fall down and sometimes bounce up. They defeat the handers even without a hand. These divine dice become embers when thrown on the gambling board. These are cold in touch, but burn the mind of the loser. (9)
जा॒या त॑प्यते कित॒वस्य॑ ही॒ना मा॒ता पु॒त्रस्य॒ चर॑तः॒ क्व॑ स्वित् । ऋ॒णा॒वा बिभ्य॒द्धन॑मि॒च्छमा॑नो॒ऽन्येषा॒मस्त॒मुप॒ नक्त॑मेति ॥ (१०)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अनिश्चित स्थान में घूमने वाले जुआरी की पत्नी उसके बिना दुःखी होती है एवं माता परेशान रहती है. दूसरों का कर्ज चढ़ जाने से जुआरी डरता है. वह दूसरों के धन को चुराने की इच्छा करता है. रात में घर आता है. (१०)
EN English Translation
The wife of the gambler roaming in an uncertain place is sad without him and the mother is upset. The gambler is afraid of the debt of others to go up. He wishes to steal the money of others. Comes home at night. (10)
स्त्रियं॑ दृ॒ष्ट्वाय॑ कित॒वं त॑तापा॒न्येषां॑ जा॒यां सुकृ॑तं च॒ योनि॑म् । पू॒र्वा॒ह्णे अश्वा॑न्युयु॒जे हि ब॒भ्रून्सो अ॒ग्नेरन्ते॑ वृष॒लः प॑पाद ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जुआरी दूसरों की सुखी पत्नियों और अच्छी प्रकार बने हुए घरों को देखकर दुःखी होता है. जो जुआरी सवेरे के समय पीले रंग के घोड़े पर बैठता है, वही शाम को कपड़ा के अभाव में शीत से व्याकुल होकर आग के पास सोता है. (११)
EN English Translation
Gamblers are sad to see the happy wives of others and well-built houses. The gambler who sits on a yellow horse in the morning, sleeps near the agni in the evening, disturbed by the cold, in the absence of clothes. (11)
यो वः॑ सेना॒नीर्म॑ह॒तो ग॒णस्य॒ राजा॒ व्रात॑स्य प्रथ॒मो ब॒भूव॑ । तस्मै॑ कृणोमि॒ न धना॑ रुणध्मि॒ दशा॒हं प्राची॒स्तदृ॒तं व॑दामि ॥ (१२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे पासो! तुम्हारे समूह का जो सेनापति राजा एवं प्रमुख है, मैं उसके लिए नमस्कार करता हूं. मैं दसों उंगलियों से हाथ जोड़कर सत्य कहता हूं कि भविष्य में मैं जुए से धन नहीं कमाऊंगा. (१२)
EN English Translation
Hey Paso! I salute the general of your group, who is the king and chief. I say the truth with folded hands with ten fingers that in the future I will not earn money from gambling. (12)
अ॒क्षैर्मा दी॑व्यः कृ॒षिमित्कृ॑षस्व वि॒त्ते र॑मस्व ब॒हु मन्य॑मानः । तत्र॒ गावः॑ कितव॒ तत्र॑ जा॒या तन्मे॒ वि च॑ष्टे सवि॒तायम॒र्यः ॥ (१३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे जुआरी! मेरी बात को महत्त्वपूर्ण समझकर तुम पासों से मत खेलो. खेती से जो धन मिले, उसीको बहुत मानकर प्रसन्न रहो. खेती से बहुत सी गाएं एवं पत्नी प्राप्त होगी, सविता स्वामी ने मुझसे ऐसा कहा है. (१३)
EN English Translation
O gambler! Don't play with the dice, considering my point of importance. Be very happy to accept the money you get from farming. Many cows and wives will be received from farming, Savita Swami has told me so. (13)
मि॒त्रं कृ॑णुध्वं॒ खलु॑ मृ॒ळता॑ नो॒ मा नो॑ घो॒रेण॑ चरता॒भि धृ॒ष्णु । नि वो॒ नु म॒न्युर्वि॑शता॒मरा॑तिर॒न्यो ब॑भ्रू॒णां प्रसि॑तौ॒ न्व॑स्तु ॥ (१४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे पासो! हमें अपना मित्र बना लो एवं हमें सुखी करो. तुम हमारे ऊपर अपने भयंकर तथा असह्य प्रभाव का प्रयोग मत करो. तुम्हारा क्रोध हमारे शत्रुओं में प्रवेश करे. शत्रु तुम पीले रंग वाले पासों के बंधन में शीघ्र आ जावें. (१४)
EN English Translation
Hey Paso! Make us your friends and make us happy. Don't use your terrible and unbearable influence on us. May your anger enter our enemies. Let the enemy come quickly to the bondage of yellow dice. (14)
