शास॒द्वह्नि॑र्दुहि॒तुर्न॒प्त्यं॑ गाद्वि॒द्वाँ ऋ॒तस्य॒ दीधि॑तिं सप॒र्यन् । पि॒ता यत्र॑ दुहि॒तुः सेक॑मृ॒ञ्जन्सं श॒ग्म्ये॑न॒ मन॑सा दध॒न्वे ॥ (१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
बिना पुत्र वाला पिता यह जानता हुआ कि इस कन्या का पुत्र मेरा पुत्र होगा, पुत्र उत्पन्न करने में समर्थ दामाद की सेवा करता हुआ शास्त्र के अनुसार उसके पास गया. ऐसी कन्या का पति उस में सुख का ध्यान करता हुआ वीर्याधान करता है, पुत्र उत्पन्न करने के लिए नहीं. (१)
EN English Translation
The father without a son knew that the son of this girl would be my son, went to him according to the scriptures, serving the son-in-law who was able to produce a son. The husband of such a girl takes care of happiness in her and gives her semen, not to produce a son. (1)
न जा॒मये॒ तान्वो॑ रि॒क्थमा॑रैक्च॒कार॒ गर्भं॑ सनि॒तुर्नि॒धान॑म् । यदी॑ मा॒तरो॑ ज॒नय॑न्त॒ वह्नि॑म॒न्यः क॒र्ता सु॒कृतो॑र॒न्य ऋ॒न्धन् ॥ (२)

औरस पुत्र अपनी बहिन को धन नहीं देता, वह उसका विवाह करके उसे केवल पति का गर्भ धारण का अधिकार देता है. यदि माता-पिता पुत्र एवं पुत्री दोनों को उत्पन्न करते हैं, तो इनमें से पुत्र पिंडदान का उत्तम कर्म करता है तथा कन्या केवल वस्त्रालंकार से आदर पाती है. (२)
EN English Translation
Auras son does not give money to his sister, he gives her the right to conceive only husband by marrying her. If the parents produce both a son and a daughter, then the son of these does the best of pinddaan and the girl gets respect only from the garment. (2)
अ॒ग्निर्ज॑ज्ञे जु॒ह्वा॒३॒॑ रेज॑मानो म॒हस्पु॒त्राँ अ॑रु॒षस्य॑ प्र॒यक्षे॑ । म॒हान्गर्भो॒ मह्या जा॒तमे॑षां म॒ही प्र॒वृद्धर्य॑श्वस्य य॒ज्ञैः ॥ (३)

हे तेजस्वी इंद्र! ज्वालाओं के द्वारा कांपती हुई अगिने ने तुम्हारे यज्ञ के लिए बहुत से किरणरूपी पुत्र उत्पन्न किए हैं. इन रश्मियों का गर्भ एवं उत्पन्न संतान महान् है. हे हरि नामक घोड़ों वाले इंद्र! तुमसे संबंधित सोम की आहुतियों के कारण इन रश्मियों की प्रवृत्ति महान् है. (३)
EN English Translation
O stunning Indra! Agne, trembling through the flames, has produced many kiran-like sons for your yajna. The womb and offspring of these rashmis are great. O Indra with horses called Hari! The tendency of these Rashmis is great due to the auts of Som related to you. (3)
अ॒भि जैत्री॑रसचन्त स्पृधा॒नं महि॒ ज्योति॒स्तम॑सो॒ निर॑जानन् । तं जा॑न॒तीः प्रत्युदा॑यन्नु॒षासः॒ पति॒र्गवा॑मभव॒देक॒ इन्द्रः॑ ॥ (४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
विजयी मरुद्गण वृत्र के साथ युद्ध करते हुए इंद्र के साथ मिल गए थे. वृत्र के मरने पर मरुतों ने उससे निकलने वाली सूर्य नामक महान् ज्योति को जाना. वृत्रहंता इंद्र को सूर्य जानती हुई उषाएं उसके समीप गई. इस प्रकार इंद्र अकेले ही सारी किरणों के पति हुए. (४)
EN English Translation
The victorious deserters had joined indra while at war with Vrithra. When Vritra died, the Maruts came to know the great light called the Sun emanating from it. The ushas, knowing The Sun, went near indra. Thus Indra became the husband of all rays alone. (4)
वी॒ळौ स॒तीर॒भि धीरा॑ अतृन्दन्प्रा॒चाहि॑न्व॒न्मन॑सा स॒प्त विप्राः॑ । विश्वा॑मविन्दन्प॒थ्या॑मृ॒तस्य॑ प्रजा॒नन्नित्ता नम॒सा वि॑वेश ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
धीर एवं मेधावी सात अंगिरागोत्रीय ऋषियों ने पर्वत में बंद गायों का पता लगा लिया था. पर्वत पर गायों को जानकर वे जिस मार्ग से घुसे थे, उसी से गायों को निकाल लाए. उन्होंने यज्ञ की साधनरूप सब गायों को प्राप्त किया. इंद्र ने अंगिरागोत्रीय ऋषियों का कर्म जानकर उन्हें नमस्कार द्वारा आदर दिया एवं उस पर्वत में घुस गए. (५)
EN English Translation
The patient and the meritorious seven Angiragotrian sages had discovered the cows locked in the mountain. Knowing the cows on the mountain, they took the cows out of the path through which they had entered. He received all the cows as a means of yajna. Indra, knowing the deeds of the Angiragotrian sages, honored them with a salutation and entered the mountain. (5)
वि॒दद्यदी॑ स॒रमा॑ रु॒ग्णमद्रे॒र्महि॒ पाथः॑ पू॒र्व्यं स॒ध्र्य॑क्कः । अग्रं॑ नयत्सु॒पद्यक्ष॑राणा॒मच्छा॒ रवं॑ प्रथ॒मा जा॑न॒ती गा॑त् ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
सरमा नाम की देवशुनी ने जब पर्वत का टूटा हुआ द्वार प्राप्त किया, तब इंद्र ने अपने वचन के अनुसार उसे बहुत से भोज्य पदार्थो के साथ अन्न दिया. सुंदर पैरों वाली सरमा (देवशुनी) गायों के रंभाने का शब्द पहचान कर उनके सामने पहुंच गई. (६)
EN English Translation
When a Devshuni (female dog of Devas ) named Sarma reached the broken gate of the mountain, Indra gave her food along with many food items according to his promise.The beautiful - footed Sarma(Devshuni) recognized the sound of the cows rumbling and reached in front of them.(6)
अग॑च्छदु॒ विप्र॑तमः सखी॒यन्नसू॑दयत्सु॒कृते॒ गर्भ॒मद्रिः॑ । स॒सान॒ मर्यो॒ युव॑भिर्मख॒स्यन्नथा॑भव॒दङ्गि॑राः स॒द्यो अर्च॑न् ॥ (७)

अतिशय मेधावी इंद्र अंगिरागोत्रीय ऋषियों के साथ मित्रता की इच्छा से गए थे. उत्तम योद्धा इंद्र के लिए पर्वत ने अपने भीतर बंद गायों को बाहर निकाल दिया. नित्यतरुण मरुतों के साथ असुरमारक एवं अंगिराओं की गायों की कामना करने वाले इंद्र ने उन्हें प्राप्त किया. अंगिरा ऋषि ने तुरंत इंद्र की पूजा की. (७)
EN English Translation
The very bright Indra went out of his desire to befriend the Angiragotrian sages. For the perfect warrior Indra, the mountain drove out the cows locked inside it. Indra, who wished for the cows of the asuramaraks and angiras along with the Nityatarun Maruts, received them. Sage Angira immediately worshiped Indra. (7)
स॒तःस॑तः प्रति॒मानं॑ पुरो॒भूर्विश्वा॑ वेद॒ जनि॑मा॒ हन्ति॒ शुष्ण॑म् । प्र णो॑ दि॒वः प॑द॒वीर्ग॒व्युरर्च॒न्सखा॒ सखी॑ँरमुञ्च॒न्निर॑व॒द्यात् ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
उत्तम वस्तुओं के प्रतिनिधि एवं युद्ध में आगे रहने वाले इंद्र समस्त उत्तम पदार्थो को जानते हैं, उन्होंने शुष्ण असुर का वध किया है. परम मेधावी एवं गायों के इच्छुक हमारे मित्र इंद्र स्वर्ग से आकर हमें पापों से बचावें. (८)
EN English Translation
Indra, the representative of the good things and who is ahead in the war, knows all the good things, he has killed the Shushna Asura. Our most meritorious and willing friend of cows, Indra, should come from heaven and save us from sins. (8)
नि ग॑व्य॒ता मन॑सा सेदुर॒र्कैः कृ॑ण्वा॒नासो॑ अमृत॒त्वाय॑ गा॒तुम् । इ॒दं चि॒न्नु सद॑नं॒ भूर्ये॑षां॒ येन॒ मासा॒ँ असि॑षासन्नृ॒तेन॑ ॥ (९)

अंगिरागोत्रीय ऋषि गायों की इच्छा करते हुए स्तोत्रों द्वारा अमरता पाने का उपाय करते हुए यज्ञ में बैठे थे. वे अपने यज्ञ के द्वारा महीनों को अलग करना चाहते थे. इसलिए उनके यज्ञ में बहुत से आसन थे. (९)
EN English Translation
The Angiragotrian sages, desiring cows, sat in the yagna, taking measures to attain immortality by the stotras. They wanted to separate the months by their yajna. So there were many asanas in his yajna. (9)
स॒म्पश्य॑माना अमदन्न॒भि स्वं पयः॑ प्र॒त्नस्य॒ रेत॑सो॒ दुघा॑नाः । वि रोद॑सी अतप॒द्घोष॑ एषां जा॒ते नि॒ष्ठामद॑धु॒र्गोषु॑ वी॒रान् ॥ (१०)

अंगिरागोत्रीय ऋषि अपनी गायों को देखते हुए पहले उत्पन्न पुत्र के लिए उनका दूध दुह कर प्रसन्न हुए. उनका प्रसन्नतासूचक शब्द धरती-आकाश में भर गया. उन्होंने संसार वस्तुओं में पुत्र के समान भावना बनाई तथा गायों की रखवाली के लिए वीर पुरुष नियुक्त किए. (१०)
EN English Translation
Seeing his cows, the Angiragotriya sage was happy to milk them for the first born son. His happy words filled the earth and sky. He created a feeling like a son in the world and appointed brave men to guard the cows. (10)
स जा॒तेभि॑र्वृत्र॒हा सेदु॑ ह॒व्यैरुदु॒स्रिया॑ असृज॒दिन्द्रो॑ अ॒र्कैः । उ॒रू॒च्य॑स्मै घृ॒तव॒द्भर॑न्ती॒ मधु॒ स्वाद्म॑ दुदुहे॒ जेन्या॒ गौः ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
इंद्र ने सहायक मरुतों के साथ वृत्र को मारा. उसने हवन के पात्र एवं पूजनीय मरुतों के साथ यज्ञ के निमित्त गायों को बनाया. इसीलिए घी सहित हव्य धारण करने वाली व पर्याप्त मात्रा में हव्य देने वाली उत्तम गौ ने यजमान के लिए स्वादिष्ट एवं मधुर दूध दिया. (११)
EN English Translation
Indra hit Vrithra with the helper Maruts. He made cows for the sake of yajna with havan pots and revered maruts. That is why the best cow, who holds a havya with ghee and gives a sufficient amount of havya, gave delicious and sweet milk for the host. (11)
पि॒त्रे चि॑च्चक्रुः॒ सद॑नं॒ सम॑स्मै॒ महि॒ त्विषी॑मत्सु॒कृतो॒ वि हि ख्यन् । वि॒ष्क॒भ्नन्तः॒ स्कम्भ॑नेना॒ जनि॑त्री॒ आसी॑ना ऊ॒र्ध्वं र॑भ॒सं वि मि॑न्वन् ॥ (१२)

अंगिरागोत्रीय ऋषियों ने पालक इंद्र के लिए प्रकाशपूर्ण उत्तम स्थान बनाया था. उत्तम यज्ञकर्म करने वाले उन लोगों ने इंद्र के लिए उचित स्थान भली प्रकार दिखा दिया था. यज्ञ मंडप में बैठे हुए उन लोगों ने विश्वजनक धरती एवं आकाश को अंतरिक्षरूपी खंभे से रोककर वेगशाली इंद्र को स्वर्ग में स्थित किया. (१२)
EN English Translation
The Angiragotrian sages had created a bright perfect place for Spinach Indra. Those who performed the best yajnakarma had shown the proper place for Indra. Sitting in the yajna mandap, they stopped the world-giving earth and the sky from the space-like pole and placed the fast indra in heaven. (12)
म॒ही यदि॑ धि॒षणा॑ शि॒श्नथे॒ धात्स॑द्यो॒वृधं॑ वि॒भ्वं१॒॑ रोद॑स्योः । गिरो॒ यस्मि॑न्ननव॒द्याः स॑मी॒चीर्विश्वा॒ इन्द्रा॑य॒ तवि॑षी॒रनु॑त्ताः ॥ (१३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
यदि हमारे द्वारा की हुई स्तुति इंद्र को धरती और आकाश को पृथक् करने एवं धारण करने में समर्थ करे, तभी हमारी निर्दोष स्तुतियां सार्थक हैं. इंद्र की सारी शक्तियां स्वभाव सिद्ध हैं. (१३)
EN English Translation
If the praise we have given us enables Indra to separate and hold the earth and the sky, then only our innocent praises are meaningful. All the powers of Indra are nature perfect. (13)
मह्या ते॑ स॒ख्यं व॑श्मि श॒क्तीरा वृ॑त्र॒घ्ने नि॒युतो॑ यन्ति पू॒र्वीः । महि॑ स्तो॒त्रमव॒ आग॑न्म सू॒रेर॒स्माकं॒ सु म॑घवन्बोधि गो॒पाः ॥ (१४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे इंद्र! मैं तुम्हारी महती एवं दान की कामना करता हूं. तुझ वृत्रहंता की सवारी के लिए बहुत सी घोड़ियां तुम्हारे पास आती हैं. तुझ विद्वान् को हम महान् और उत्तम हव्य पहुंचाते हैं. हे मघवन्! तुम स्वयं को हमारा रक्षक समझ लो. (१४)
EN English Translation
O Indra! I wish you dearness and charity. Many horses come to you for your ride. To your scholar we give great and excellent greetings. Oh, it's a maghwan! Consider yourself as our protector. (14)
महि॒ क्षेत्रं॑ पु॒रु श्च॒न्द्रं वि॑वि॒द्वानादित्सखि॑भ्यश्च॒रथं॒ समै॑रत् । इन्द्रो॒ नृभि॑रजन॒द्दीद्या॑नः सा॒कं सूर्य॑मु॒षसं॑ गा॒तुम॒ग्निम् ॥ (१५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
इंद्र ने भली-भांति जानते हुए हम मित्रों को विशाल खेत एवं बहुत सा सोना दिया है. इसके पश्चात् गाएं आदि भी दी हैं. दीप्तिमान् इंद्र ने नेता मरुतों से मिलकर सूर्य, उषा, धरती एवं अग्नि को उत्पन्न किया. (१५)
EN English Translation
Indra, knowing it well, has given us friends a huge field and a lot of gold. After that, songs etc. are also given. Deeptiman Indra, along with the leaders maruts, created the sun, usha, earth and agni. (15)
अ॒पश्चि॑दे॒ष वि॒भ्वो॒३॒॑ दमू॑नाः॒ प्र स॒ध्रीची॑रसृजद्वि॒श्वश्च॑न्द्राः । मध्वः॑ पुना॒नाः क॒विभिः॑ प॒वित्रै॒र्द्युभि॑र्हिन्वन्त्य॒क्तुभि॒र्धनु॑त्रीः ॥ (१६)

शांतचित्त इंद्र ने सर्वत्र व्याप्त, एक-दूसरे से मिले हुए एवं संसार को प्रसन्न करने वाले जलों को उत्पन्न किया. वे जल मधुरतायुक्त सोम को अग्ने, वायु व सूर्य के द्वारा शुद्ध कराते हुए सारे संसार को प्रसन्न करके रात-दिन अपने-अपने कामों में लगाते हैं. (१६)
EN English Translation
The calm-minded Indra created the waters that are everywhere, meeting each other and pleasing the world. They purify the water-sweet som through agne, wind and sun, pleasing the whole world and applying it in their respective activities day and night. (16)
अनु॑ कृ॒ष्णे वसु॑धिती जिहाते उ॒भे सूर्य॑स्य मं॒हना॒ यज॑त्रे । परि॒ यत्ते॑ महि॒मानं॑ वृ॒जध्यै॒ सखा॑य इन्द्र॒ काम्या॑ ऋजि॒प्याः ॥ (१७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे इंद्र! तुझ जगत्प्रेरक की महिमा से समस्त पदार्थो को धारण करने वाले एवं यज्ञ के पात्र दिनरात बार-बार आते हैं. सीधी चाल वाले, मित्र एवं कमनीय मरुद्गण विघ्नकारी शन्रुओं को हराने के लिए तुम्हारी शक्ति का सहारा पाकर समर्थ बनते हैं. (१७)
EN English Translation
O Indra! By the glory of your creator, those who wear all the substances and the vessels of the yajna come again and again day and night. Straight-moving, friends and commensable deserts are able to support your power to defeat the disturbing deserts. (17)
पति॑र्भव वृत्रहन्सू॒नृता॑नां गि॒रां वि॒श्वायु॑र्वृष॒भो व॑यो॒धाः । आ नो॑ गहि स॒ख्येभिः॑ शि॒वेभि॑र्म॒हान्म॒हीभि॑रू॒तिभिः॑ सर॒ण्यन् ॥ (१८)

हे वृत्रहंता, पूर्ण आयु वाले, कामवर्षक व अन्नदाता इंद्र! तुम हमारी अतिशय प्रिय स्तुतियों के स्वामी बनो. महान् एवं रूप के निमित्त जाने के इच्छुक तुम महती रक्षाओं एवं कल्याणकारी मित्रता के लिए हमारे सामने आओ. (१८)
EN English Translation
O Vrithrahanta, full-age, workman and annadata Indra! Be the lord of our most beloved praises. Come before us for great defences and welfare friendships, willing to go for the sake of greatness and appearance. (18)
तम॑ङ्गिर॒स्वन्नम॑सा सप॒र्यन्नव्यं॑ कृणोमि॒ सन्य॑से पुरा॒जाम् । द्रुहो॒ वि या॑हि बहु॒ला अदे॑वीः॒ स्व॑श्च नो मघवन्सा॒तये॑ धाः ॥ (१९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे इंद्र! मैं अंगिरागोत्रीय ऋषियों के समान तुझ पुरातन की पूजा करता हुआ स्तुतियों दवारा तुम्हें नवीन बनाता हूं. तुम देवविरोधी बहुत से शत्रु राक्षसों को मार डालो. हे मघवन्! हमें उपभोग के लिए धन दो. (१९)
EN English Translation
O Indra! I make you new as the Angiragothrists, worshiping you as the ancient ones, and praise you. You kill many enemy monsters against god. Oh, it's a maghwan! Give us money for consumption. (19)
मिहः॑ पाव॒काः प्रत॑ता अभूवन्स्व॒स्ति नः॑ पिपृहि पा॒रमा॑साम् । इन्द्र॒ त्वं र॑थि॒रः पा॑हि नो रि॒षो म॒क्षूम॑क्षू कृणुहि गो॒जितो॑ नः ॥ (२०)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे इंद्र! पाप नष्ट करने वाले जल चारों ओर फैले हैं. इन जलों के अविनाशी नद को हमारे लिए जल से भर दो. हे इंद्र! तुम रथ के स्वामी हो. हमें शत्रु से बचाओ एवं अत्यंत शीघ्र गायों का जीतने वाला बनाओ. (२०)
EN English Translation
O Indra! Sin-destroying waters are spread all around. Fill the indestructible duct of these waters with water for us. O Indra! You are the lord of the chariot. Save us from the enemy and make the victory of the cows very quickly. (20)
अदे॑दिष्ट वृत्र॒हा गोप॑ति॒र्गा अ॒न्तः कृ॒ष्णाँ अ॑रु॒षैर्धाम॑भिर्गात् । प्र सू॒नृता॑ दि॒शमा॑न ऋ॒तेन॒ दुर॑श्च॒ विश्वा॑ अवृणो॒दप॒ स्वाः ॥ (२१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
वे वृत्रनाशक एवं गोस्वामी इंद्र हमें गाएं दें एवं यज्ञविनाशक काले लोगों को अपने दीप्त तेज द्वारा समाप्त करें. इंद्र ने सत्यवचन से अंगिराओं को प्यारी गाएं देकर गायों के निकलने के सभी द्वार बंद कर दिए थे. (२१)
EN English Translation
Let them sing to us vrithrashakta and goswami indra and end the sacrificial black people with their bright fast. Indra had closed all the gates of the cows' exit by giving sweet songs to the Angiras from the truth. (21)
शु॒नं हु॑वेम म॒घवा॑न॒मिन्द्र॑म॒स्मिन्भरे॒ नृत॑मं॒ वाज॑सातौ । शृ॒ण्वन्त॑मु॒ग्रमू॒तये॑ स॒मत्सु॒ घ्नन्तं॑ वृ॒त्राणि॑ सं॒जितं॒ धना॑नाम् ॥ (२२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
धन-प्राप्ति वाले संग्राम में उत्साहपूर्ण, धनवान् सकल-विश्व के नेता, स्तुतियां सुनने वाले, शत्रुओं को भयंकर, युद्धों में राक्षस विनाशकारी एवं शत्रुओं के धन के विजेता इंद्र को हम रक्षा के लिए बुलाते हैं. (२२)

We call indra, the leader of the rich world, the leader of the wealthy world, the hearer of praises, the fierce of the enemies, the demon destroyers in wars and the conqueror of the wealth of the enemies, indra, the leader of the wealth of the enemies. (22)
