Instead, Hanuman ji is repeatedly described using his fist, his feet , his nails, trees , rocks , mountain peaks , pillars and etc, but not Gada.  The image of hanuman ji, constantly wielding a gada, become widespread in later devotional traditions, temple iconography, medieval literature and modern visual representations.

Detailed Investigation

Let's see it in little more details,

1. Hanuman ji's First Major Battle in Lanka

when hanuman ji entered Lanka and was discovered by Rakshas, he fought numerous warriors sent by Ravan. The sage Valmiki describes hanuman uproaching the massive trees and using them as a weapon again to Rakshas soldiers.

The text repeatedly emphasizes his physical strength rather than the use of Gada. At no point during these battles in hanuman ji, introduced as carrying GADA.

2. The Battle at the Ashoka Vatika

After meeting Devi Sita , hanuman ji deliberately destroyed the Ashok Vatika. Ravan dispatched large number of warriors to capture him , according to sundarkand harmanji used tree, rocks, iron structures, his bare hands to annihilate forces. Again, no Gada is mentioned.

3. Hanuman and Jambumai

One of the ravan's warriors,  Jambumai attacked Hanuman with arrows. In response , hanmanji seized a huge rock and threw at him. When that was insufficient, he used a large tree as a weapon. The battle description focuses entirely on improvised weapons and raw physical power. There is no mention of Gada.

4. Hanuman and Aksha Kumar

Ravan's son Aksha Kumar confronted Hanuman ji with a celestial chariot.  The Valmiki Ramayan states that Hanuman ji lipped into the air , seized aksha , whirled him around and dashed him on the ground. The Prince was killed through the Hanuman ji's physical might. No Gada is mentioned.

5. Hanuman ji During the Lanka War

In Yudh Kand Hanuman ji continues fighting Ravan's forces. The text describes him using mountain peaks, trees, massross, crushing blows. His strength is portrayed as so immense that he often doesn't require conventional weapons.

6. Why Is Hanuman ji Always Shown with a Gada Then?

The answer lies in later Hindu iconography. Over time Hanuman ji became associated with Gada as symbol of strength, the Gada represents physical power, heroism , protection, martial prowess. This quality quality is perfectly matched perfectly Hanuman ji's character.

Several later, Ramayana tradition, regional retailings, increasingly emphasize the Gada as Hanuman's characteristic weapon.

These are Artistic tradition eventually become more famous than the original battle description found in the Valmiki Ramayan.

WHAT VALMIKI RAMAYAN ACTUALLY SAYS:

The Valmiki Ramayan overwhelmingly portrays Hanuman ji's fighting with his immense physical strength, trees, rocks, mountain picks, pillars, bare handed combat. The text doesn't depict him as constantly carrying and using Gada throughout the Lanka war.

The familiar image of Hanuman ji wielding a Gada , is primarily the result of later iconographic and devotional traditions, rather than the battlefield descriptions found in earliest Ramayan.
