विश्वे॑ देवाः शा॒स्तन॑ मा॒ यथे॒ह होता॑ वृ॒तो म॒नवै॒ यन्नि॒षद्य॑ । प्र मे॑ ब्रूत भाग॒धेयं॒ यथा॑ वो॒ येन॑ प॒था ह॒व्यमा वो॒ वहा॑नि ॥ (१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अग्नि ने मन ही मन कहा-“हे विश्वेदेवो। तुमने मुझे होता के रूप में वरण किया है. मुझे यहां बैठकर जो मंत्र पढ़ना है, वह मुझे बताओ. मेरा और तुम्हारा भाग कौन सा है, यह मुझे बताओ. मुझे वह मार्ग भी बताओ, जिससे मैं हव्य तुम्हारे पास ले जाउं. (१)
EN English Translation
The agni said to himself, "O Visves. You have chosen me as would have. Tell me the mantras I have to sit here and read. Tell me which part of me and yours is. Tell me the way in which I may take you. (1)
अ॒हं होता॒ न्य॑सीदं॒ यजी॑या॒न्विश्वे॑ दे॒वा म॒रुतो॑ मा जुनन्ति । अह॑रहरश्वि॒नाध्व॑र्यवं वां ब्र॒ह्मा स॒मिद्भ॑वति॒ साहु॑तिर्वाम् ॥ (२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
मैं होता के रथ में बैठा हूं और यज्ञ करूंगा. सभी देवों और मरुतों ने मुझे इस कार्य के लिए प्रेरित किया है. हे अश्विनीकुमारो। तुम्हें प्रतिदिन अध्वर्यु का काम करना है. चंद्रमा ब्रह्मा होंगे. तुम दोनों के लिए आहुति प्राप्त होगी. (२)
EN English Translation
I will be sitting in the chariot and will perform yajna. All the gods and goddesses have inspired me to do this work. O Ashwinikumaro. You have to do the work of the teacher every day. The moon will be Brahma. You will receive sacrifices for both of you. (2)
अ॒यं यो होता॒ किरु॒ स य॒मस्य॒ कमप्यू॑हे॒ यत्स॑म॒ञ्जन्ति॑ दे॒वाः । अह॑रहर्जायते मा॒सिमा॒स्यथा॑ दे॒वा द॑धिरे हव्य॒वाह॑म् ॥ (३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
यह जो होता है, वह क्या काम करता है? वह यजमान के द्वारा होम किया हुआ हव्य- वहन करता है. उस हव्य को देव धारण करते हैं. प्रतिदिन और प्रतिमास हवन होता है. इस कार्य के लिए देवों ने मुझे नियुक्त किया है. (३)
EN English Translation
What happens, what does it do? He carries the home made by the host. That havya is possessed by God. There is a daily and idolous havan. The gods have appointed me for this work. (3)
मां दे॒वा द॑धिरे हव्य॒वाह॒मप॑म्लुक्तं ब॒हु कृ॒च्छ्रा चर॑न्तम् । अ॒ग्निर्वि॒द्वान्य॒ज्ञं नः॑ कल्पयाति॒ पञ्च॑यामं त्रि॒वृतं॑ स॒प्तत॑न्तुम् ॥ (४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
मुझ पलायन करने वाले एवं अनेक दुर्गम स्थानों में घूमने वाले अग्नि को देवों ने हव्य- वहन करने वाला नियुक्त किया था. देवों ने यह सोचा था कि ये अग्नि सब कुछ जानते हैं, इसलिए हमारे पांच मार्गों, तीन प्रकारों एवं सात छंदों की स्तुतियों वाले यज्ञ को पूर्ण करेंगे. (४)
EN English Translation
The agni that emigrated to me and roamed in many difficult places was appointed by the gods as the one who carried the vehicle. The gods thought that these agnis knew everything, so we would complete the yajna with the praises of our five paths, three types and seven verses. (4)
आ वो॑ यक्ष्यमृत॒त्वं सु॒वीरं॒ यथा॑ वो देवा॒ वरि॑वः॒ करा॑णि । आ बा॒ह्वोर्वज्र॒मिन्द्र॑स्य धेया॒मथे॒मा विश्वाः॒ पृत॑ना जयाति ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे देवो! मैं तुम्हारी हव्य-वहनरूपी सेवा करता हूं, इसलिए तुमसे मरणरहित होने एवं संतानयुक्त होने की याचना करता हूं. मैं इंद्र की दोनों भुजाओं में वज्र देता हूं, जिससे वे सभी शत्रु सेनाओं को जीतते हैं.” (५)
EN English Translation
Oh, God! I serve you in a human-to-carry manner, so I beseech you to be without death and have children. I give thunder in both arms of Indra, so that they conquer all enemy armies." (5)
त्रीणि॑ श॒ता त्री स॒हस्रा॑ण्य॒ग्निं त्रिं॒शच्च॑ दे॒वा नव॑ चासपर्यन् । औक्ष॑न्घृ॒तैरस्तृ॑णन्ब॒र्हिर॑स्मा॒ आदिद्धोता॑रं॒ न्य॑सादयन्त ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
तीन हजार तीन सौ उनतालीस देवों ने अग्नि की सेवा की. देवों ने अग्नि को घृत से भिगोया, उनके लिए कुश बिछाए एवं होता बनाकर यज्ञ में बैठाया. (६)
EN English Translation
Three thousand three hundred forty-nine gods served the agni; the gods soaked the agni with disgust, laid kushs for them and made them sit in the yagna. (6)
