धा॒रा॒व॒रा म॒रुतो॑ धृ॒ष्ण्वो॑जसो मृ॒गा न भी॒मास्तवि॑षीभिर॒र्चिनः॑ । अ॒ग्नयो॒ न शु॑शुचा॒ना ऋ॑जी॒षिणो॒ भृमिं॒ धम॑न्तो॒ अप॒ गा अ॑वृण्वत ॥ (१)

स्थिर वृक्ष आदि को चंचल करने वाले, अपनी शक्ति से सबको पराजित करने वाले, पशु के समान भयानक, अपने बल द्वारा समस्त संसार को व्याप्त करने वाले, अग्नि के समान दीप्त एवं जल से युक्त मरुद्गण घूमने वाले बादलों को छिन्न-भिन्न करके जल बरसाते हैं. (१)
EN English Translation
Those who fickle the still trees, etc., who defeat everyone with their power, are terrible as an animal, who pervade the whole world with their own force, are as bright as agni and the deserts with water, who scatter the swirling clouds and rain water. (1)
द्यावो॒ न स्तृभि॑श्चितयन्त खा॒दिनो॒ व्य१॒॑भ्रिया॒ न द्यु॑तयन्त वृ॒ष्टयः॑ । रु॒द्रो यद्वो॑ मरुतो रुक्मवक्षसो॒ वृषाज॑नि॒ पृश्न्याः॑ शु॒क्र ऊध॑नि ॥ (२)

हे सीने पर दीप्त आभरणों वाले मरुद्गण! कामवर्षक रुद्र ने तुम्हें पृश्नि के निर्मल उदर से पैदा किया है. तुम अपने आभूषणों से उसी प्रकार शोभा पाते हो, जिस प्रकार आकाश तारागण से शोभित होता है. शत्रुभक्षक एवं जलवर्षक मरुद्गण बादलों में बिजली के समान प्रकाशित होते हैं. (२)
EN English Translation
O the deserts with bright fills on the chest! The workman Rudra created you from the pure belly of the earth. You are adorned with your ornaments in the same way that the sky is adorned with stars. Enemy-eaters and water-year deserts are illuminated like lightning in clouds. (2)
उ॒क्षन्ते॒ अश्वा॒ँ अत्या॑ँ इवा॒जिषु॑ न॒दस्य॒ कर्णै॑स्तुरयन्त आ॒शुभिः॑ । हिर॑ण्यशिप्रा मरुतो॒ दवि॑ध्वतः पृ॒क्षं या॑थ॒ पृष॑तीभिः समन्यवः ॥ (३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जिस प्रकार घोड़े युद्ध में पसीने से धरती सींच देते हैं, उसी प्रकार संसार को सींचने वाले मरुद्गण घोड़े पर चढ़कर गर्जन करते हुए बादल के कान के पास से जल्दी से निकल जाते हैं. सोने के टोप वाले, समान क्रोध वाले एवं वृक्ष कंपित करने वाले मरुतो! तुम काली बूंदों वाली हिरनियों पर चढ़कर हव्य वाले यजमान के पास आते हो. (३)
EN English Translation
Just as horses irrigate the earth with sweat in war, so the deserters who irrigate the world quickly get out of the ear of the cloud, climbing on to the horse and roaring. Maruto with a gold hat, with equal anger and a tree shaking! You come up on the greens with black drops to the host with a whiff. (3)
पृ॒क्षे ता विश्वा॒ भुव॑ना ववक्षिरे मि॒त्राय॑ वा॒ सद॒मा जी॒रदा॑नवः । पृष॑दश्वासो अनव॒भ्ररा॑धस ऋजि॒प्यासो॒ न व॒युने॑षु धू॒र्षदः॑ ॥ (४)

मरुद्गण हव्यधारक यजमान के लिए मित्र के समान सारा जल ढोकर लाते हैं. मरुद्गण शीघ्र दान करने वाले, श्वेत बिंदुयुक्त अश्चों वाले, भ्रंशरहित धन वाले एवं सीधे चलने वाले घोड़ों की तरह पथिकों के सम्मुख जाते हैं. (४)
EN English Translation
The deserters carry all the water for the host like a friend. Deserters face the pathiks like quick donating, white-dotted, without fault-free wealth, and walking straight horses. (4)
इन्ध॑न्वभिर्धे॒नुभी॑ र॒प्शदू॑धभिरध्व॒स्मभिः॑ प॒थिभि॑र्भ्राजदृष्टयः । आ हं॒सासो॒ न स्वस॑राणि गन्तन॒ मधो॒र्मदा॑य मरुतः समन्यवः ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे समान क्रोध वाले एवं दीप्तियुक्त आयुधों वाले मरुद्गण! हंस जिस प्रकार अपने निवासस्थान पर उतरते हैं, उसी प्रकार तुम दुधारू गायों एवं गरजते हुए मेघों के साथ विघ्नरहित पथ से मधुर सोमरस द्वारा प्रसन्नता प्राप्त करने के लिए आओ. (५)
EN English Translation
O the deserts with equal anger and radiant weapons! Just as the swans descend upon their abode, so come to find happiness through the sweet somarahs from the path of disruption with the milch cows and the thundering clouds. (5)
आ नो॒ ब्रह्मा॑णि मरुतः समन्यवो न॒रां न शंसः॒ सव॑नानि गन्तन । अश्वा॑मिव पिप्यत धे॒नुमूध॑नि॒ कर्ता॒ धियं॑ जरि॒त्रे वाज॑पेशसम् ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे समान क्रोध वाले मरुतो! तुम जिस प्रकार हमारी स्तुतियां सुनने आते हो, उसी प्रकार हमारे हव्य अन्न के प्रति आओ. तुम गाय को घोड़ों के समान पुष्ट अंग वाली तथा यजमान का यज्ञ अन्नयुक्त करो. (६)
EN English Translation
O Maruto of equal anger! Just as you come to hear Our praises, so come to our good food. You give the cow a strong organ like a horse and the host's yajna. (6)
तं नो॑ दात मरुतो वा॒जिनं॒ रथ॑ आपा॒नं ब्रह्म॑ चि॒तय॑द्दि॒वेदि॑वे । इषं॑ स्तो॒तृभ्यो॑ वृ॒जने॑षु का॒रवे॑ स॒निं मे॒धामरि॑ष्टं दु॒ष्टरं॒ सहः॑ ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे मरुद्गण! हमें अन्न के साथ-साथ ऐसा पुत्र भी प्रदान करो जो तुम्हारे आने के समय प्रतिदिन तुम्हारा गुणगान करे. अपने स्तुतिकर्ता को तुम अन्न दो. जो लोग युद्ध में तुम्हारी स्तुति करते हैं, उन्हें युद्ध ज्ञान, धन देने की शक्ति एवं शत्रुओं द्वारा अधृष्य एवं असहनीय बल दो. (७)
EN English Translation
O deserters! Give us food as well as a Son who praises you every day at the time of your coming. Give food to your praiseor. Give those who praise you in war, the wisdom of war, the power to give money, and the power of the enemies to be unbearable and intolerable. (7)
यद्यु॒ञ्जते॑ म॒रुतो॑ रु॒क्मव॑क्ष॒सोऽश्वा॒न्रथे॑षु॒ भग॒ आ सु॒दान॑वः । धे॒नुर्न शिश्वे॒ स्वस॑रेषु पिन्वते॒ जना॑य रा॒तह॑विषे म॒हीमिष॑म् ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
सीने पर चमकीले गहने पहनने वाले एवं शोभन दानयुक्त मरुद्गण रथ पर सवार होते ही यजमान के घर जाकर उसी प्रकार यथेष्ट अन्न देते हैं, जिस प्रकार गाय अपने बछड़े को दूध पिलाती है. (८)
EN English Translation
As soon as the marudgans, who wear bright ornaments on their chests and adorn the daan, ride on the chariot, they go to the host's house and give the food worthy, just as the cow feeds its calf. (8)
यो नो॑ मरुतो वृ॒कता॑ति॒ मर्त्यो॑ रि॒पुर्द॒धे व॑सवो॒ रक्ष॑ता रि॒षः । व॒र्तय॑त॒ तपु॑षा च॒क्रिया॒भि तमव॑ रुद्रा अ॒शसो॑ हन्तना॒ वधः॑ ॥ (९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे मरुदगण एवं वसुओ! जो मनुष्य भेड़िए के समान हमसे शत्रुता रखता है, उस हिंसा करने वाले से हमारी रक्षा करो. हे रुद्रपुत्रो! हमारे शत्रु को दुःख देकर सृष्टि से दूर भगाओ एवं उसके सभी आयुध दूर फेंक दो. (९)
EN English Translation
O deserters and vasuo! Protect us from the one who commits violence, who hates us like a wolf. O rudraputras! Drive away from creation by grieving our enemy and throw away all his weapons. (9)
चि॒त्रं तद्वो॑ मरुतो॒ याम॑ चेकिते॒ पृश्न्या॒ यदूध॒रप्या॒पयो॑ दु॒हुः । यद्वा॑ नि॒दे नव॑मानस्य रुद्रियास्त्रि॒तं जरा॑य जुर॒ताम॑दाभ्याः ॥ (१०)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे मरुतो! तुम्हारा वह विचित्र कर्म सब जानते हैं कि तुमने पृश्चिमाता के स्तनों से दूध पिया था एवं स्तोता की निंदा करने वाले को मारा था. हे अहिंसनीय रुद्रपुत्रो! तुमने त्रित ऋषि के शत्रुओं को नष्ट किया. (१०)
EN English Translation
O Maruto! All those strange deeds of yours know that you drank milk from the breasts of the earth and killed the one who condemned the psalms. O non-violent Rudraputras! You destroyed the enemies of the sage Trinity. (10)
तान्वो॑ म॒हो म॒रुत॑ एव॒याव्नो॒ विष्णो॑रे॒षस्य॑ प्रभृ॒थे ह॑वामहे । हिर॑ण्यवर्णान्ककु॒हान्य॒तस्रु॑चो ब्रह्म॒ण्यन्तः॒ शंस्यं॒ राध॑ ईमहे ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे यज्ञस्थल में जाने वाले महानुभाव मरुतो! हम सर्वव्यापक एवं प्रार्थनीय सोमरस के तैयार होने पर तुम्हें बुलाते हैं एवं सर्वोत्तम व सुनहरे रंग के खुच को उठाकर सर्वोत्तम स्तुतियों द्वारा तुमसे उत्तम धन मांगते हैं. (११)
EN English Translation
O mortals who go to the yagnasthala! We call you when the omnipresent and prized somras are ready and pick up the best and golden-colored khuch and ask you for the best money by the best of praises. (11)
ते दश॑ग्वाः प्रथ॒मा य॒ज्ञमू॑हिरे॒ ते नो॑ हिन्वन्तू॒षसो॒ व्यु॑ष्टिषु । उ॒षा न रा॒मीर॑रु॒णैरपो॑र्णुते म॒हो ज्योति॑षा शुच॒ता गोअ॑र्णसा ॥ (१२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
दस मास तक यज्ञ करके सिद्धि प्राप्त करने वाले अंगिराओं के रूप में मरुतों ने पहली बार यज्ञ को धारण किया था. वे उषाओं के आने पर हमें यज्ञकार्य में लगावें. उषा जिस प्रकार अपनी लाल किरणों से काली रात को हटाती है, उसी प्रकार मरुद्गण महान्, दीप्तियुक्त एवं जल टपकाने वाली ज्योति से अंधकार मिटाते हैं. (१२)
EN English Translation
The Maruts held the yajna for the first time as angiras who attained siddhi by performing yajna for ten months. They should engage us in the yagna work when the ushas come. Just as Usha removes the black night with her red rays, so the deserts remove darkness from the great, radiant and water-dripping light. (12)
ते क्षो॒णीभि॑ररु॒णेभि॒र्नाञ्जिभी॑ रु॒द्रा ऋ॒तस्य॒ सद॑नेषु वावृधुः । नि॒मेघ॑माना॒ अत्ये॑न॒ पाज॑सा सुश्च॒न्द्रं वर्णं॑ दधिरे सु॒पेश॑सम् ॥ (१३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
रुद्रपुत्र मरुद्गण शब्द करने वाली वीणाओं एवं लाल रंग के आभूषणों से युक्त होकर जल के निवासस्थान बादलों में बढ़े हैं. वे शीघ्रगामी एवं सर्वव्यापी बल से बादलों से अधिक मात्रा में जल बरसाते हुए प्रसन्नतापूर्वक उत्तम रूप धारण करते हैं. (१३)
EN English Translation
Rudraputra has grown into clouds with harps and red ornaments that make up the word Marudgana. They take on a cheerfully fine form by raining more water from the clouds by rapid and omnipresent force. (13)
ताँ इ॑या॒नो महि॒ वरू॑थमू॒तय॒ उप॒ घेदे॒ना नम॑सा गृणीमसि । त्रि॒तो न यान्पञ्च॒ होतॄ॑न॒भिष्ट॑य आव॒वर्त॒दव॑राञ्च॒क्रियाव॑से ॥ (१४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हम वरुणों से विस्तृत धन की याचना करते हुए अपनी रक्षा के निमित्त स्तोत्रों द्वारा प्रार्थना करते हैं. त्रित ऋषि ने अपनी इच्छापूर्ति के लिए नाभिचक्र द्वारा प्राण, अपान, समान, व्यान ओर उदान पांच होताओं को लौटा लिया. (१४)
EN English Translation
We pray through hymns to protect ourselves by asking for vast wealth from varunas. Sage Trinity returned the five hotas of prana, apan, sama, vyan and uddan through the navel chakra to fulfill his wish. (14)
यया॑ र॒ध्रं पा॒रय॒थात्यंहो॒ यया॑ नि॒दो मु॒ञ्चथ॑ वन्दि॒तार॑म् । अ॒र्वाची॒ सा म॑रुतो॒ या व॑ ऊ॒तिरो षु वा॒श्रेव॑ सुम॒तिर्जि॑गातु ॥ (१५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे मरुद्गण! तुम जिस रक्षाबुद्धि द्वारा यजमान को पापों से दूर करते हो, एवं जिससे स्तोता को शत्रु के हाथ से छुड़ाते हो, तुम्हारी वही रक्षाबुद्धि हमारी ओर ऐसे आए, जैसे रंभाती हुई गाय अपने बछड़े के पास आती है. (१५)
EN English Translation
O deserters! The defense by which you remove the host from sins, and from which you deliver the hymn from the hand of the enemy, your same defense will come to us as if a cow with a ramming cow comes to its calf. (15)
