ऊ॒र्ध्व ऊ॒ षु णो॑ अध्वरस्य होत॒रग्ने॒ तिष्ठ॑ दे॒वता॑ता॒ यजी॑यान् । त्वं हि विश्व॑म॒भ्यसि॒ मन्म॒ प्र वे॒धस॑श्चित्तिरसि मनी॒षाम् ॥ (१)

आफ्नवान् एवं अन्य भृगुवंशी ऋषियों ने वनों में दावाग्निरूप से दर्शनीय एवं समस्त प्रजाओं के स्वामी अग्नि को प्रज्वलित किया था. वे ही देवों को बुलाने वाले, अतिशय यज्ञकर्ता, यज्ञों में ऋत्विजों द्वारा स्तुत्य एवं देवों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ अग्नि यज्ञकर्तताओं द्वारा स्थापित किए गए हैं. (१)
EN English Translation
Afnavan and other Bhriguvanshi sages had ignited the agni, the lord of all the people, to be spectacular in the forests. They are the ones who call the gods, the very sacrificial ones, the ones who are set up by the sages in the yagnas, the ones who are praiseworthy and the best of the agni yajnakartas among the devas. (1)
अमू॑रो॒ होता॒ न्य॑सादि वि॒क्ष्व१॒॑ग्निर्म॒न्द्रो वि॒दथे॑षु॒ प्रचे॑ताः । ऊ॒र्ध्वं भा॒नुं स॑वि॒तेवा॑श्रे॒न्मेते॑व धू॒मं स्त॑भाय॒दुप॒ द्याम् ॥ (२)

हे द्योतमान एवं मानवों द्वारा पूज्य अग्नि! तुम्हारा तेज कब गतिशील होगा? मनुष्य तुम्हें ग्रहण करते हैं. (२)
EN English Translation
O agni that is signified and revered by humans! When will your fast move? Humans receive you. (2)
य॒ता सु॑जू॒र्णी रा॒तिनी॑ घृ॒ताची॑ प्रदक्षि॒णिद्दे॒वता॑तिमुरा॒णः । उदु॒ स्वरु॑र्नव॒जा नाक्रः प॒श्वो अ॑नक्ति॒ सुधि॑तः सु॒मेकः॑ ॥ (३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
मायारहित, विशिष्ट-ज्ञान वाले, तारों से भरे हुए आकाश के समान चिनगारियों से युक्त एवं समस्त यज्ञों की वृद्धि करने वाले अग्नि को देखते हुए ऋत्विजों ने उन्हें प्रत्येक यज्ञशाला में ग्रहण किया. (३)
EN English Translation
Seeing the agni that was maya-free, of idiosyncratic, with stars-like sparks and increasing all the yagnas, the Ritvijas received them in each yajnashala. (3)
स्ती॒र्णे ब॒र्हिषि॑ समिधा॒ने अ॒ग्ना ऊ॒र्ध्वो अ॑ध्व॒र्युर्जु॑जुषा॒णो अ॑स्थात् । पर्य॒ग्निः प॑शु॒पा न होता॑ त्रिवि॒ष्ट्ये॑ति प्र॒दिव॑ उरा॒णः ॥ (४)

मनुष्य समस्त प्रजाओं को पराजित करने वाले, तीव्रगति, यजमान के दूत, ध्वज के समान ज्ञान कराने वाले एवं दीप्तिमान् अग्नि को सभी प्रजाओं के कल्याण के लिए लाते हैं. (४)
EN English Translation
Human beings bring the defeater of all the people, the fastest, the messenger of the host, the knowledge of the flag, and the deep-seated agni for the welfare of all the people. (4)
परि॒ त्मना॑ मि॒तद्रु॑रेति॒ होता॒ग्निर्म॒न्द्रो मधु॑वचा ऋ॒तावा॑ । द्रव॑न्त्यस्य वा॒जिनो॒ न शोका॒ भय॑न्ते॒ विश्वा॒ भुव॑ना॒ यदभ्रा॑ट् ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
ऋत्विज् आदि मानवों ने प्रसिद्ध, क्रमशः देवों को बुलाने वाले, ज्ञानसंपन्न, रमणीय, पवित्र प्रकाश वाले, श्रेष्ठ यज्ञकर्ता एवं सात तेजों से युक्त अग्नि को स्थापित किया था. (५)
EN English Translation
The ritwijas, etc., had established the famous, the one who called the gods respectively, the wise, the delightful, the one with the holy light, the best yagyakarta and the agni with the seven lights. (5)
भ॒द्रा ते॑ अग्ने स्वनीक सं॒दृग्घो॒रस्य॑ स॒तो विषु॑णस्य॒ चारुः॑ । न यत्ते॑ शो॒चिस्तम॑सा॒ वर॑न्त॒ न ध्व॒स्मान॑स्त॒न्वी॒३॒॑ रेप॒ आ धुः॑ ॥ (६)

माता के समान जलसमूह में एवं वृक्षों में वर्तमान, सुंदर, जलने के डर से प्राणियों द्वारा असेवित, विचित्र, गुहा में छिपे हुए, शोभन धनयुक्त एवं सभी जगह हव्य की अभिलाषा करने वाले अग्नि को ऋत्विजों ने स्थापित किया था. (६)
EN English Translation
The ritvijas had established the agni in the water group like the mother and in the trees, present, beautiful, unsettled by beings for fear of burning, strange, hidden in the cavity, rich and desireing to be desired everywhere. (6)
न यस्य॒ सातु॒र्जनि॑तो॒रवा॑रि॒ न मा॒तरा॑पि॒तरा॒ नू चि॑दि॒ष्टौ । अधा॑ मि॒त्रो न सुधि॑तः पाव॒को॒३॒॑ऽग्निर्दी॑दाय॒ मानु॑षीषु वि॒क्षु ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
देवगण प्रातःकाल नींद त्याग कर जल के कारणभूत यज्ञ में अग्नि को प्रसन्न करते हैं. महान्, नमस्कारपूर्वक हव्य दिए गए एवं सत्ययुक्त अग्नि सदा ही यजमानों के यज्ञों को जानें. (७)
EN English Translation
The devas give up their sleep in the morning and please the agni in the yagna due to water. Great, salutation salutations and true agnis always know the yajnas of the hosts. (7)
द्विर्यं पञ्च॒ जीज॑नन्सं॒वसा॑नाः॒ स्वसा॑रो अ॒ग्निं मानु॑षीषु वि॒क्षु । उ॒ष॒र्बुध॑मथ॒र्यो॒३॒॑ न दन्तं॑ शु॒क्रं स्वासं॑ पर॒शुं न ति॒ग्मम् ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे विद्वान् यज्ञ के दूत, कार्यो को जानने वाले, धरती और आकाश के मध्य भाग से भली-भांति परिचित, पुरातन, थोड़े हव्य को अधिक करने में समर्थ, अतिशय विद्वान् एव देवों के दूत अग्नि! तुम देवों को हवि देने के लिए स्वर्ग की सीढ़ियों पर चढ़ते हो. (८)
EN English Translation
O learned angel of yajna, the knower of the works, well acquainted with the middle part of the earth and the sky, the old, capable of overdoing a little human being, the most learned and the messengers of the gods, the agni! You climb the stairs of heaven to give glory to the gods. (8)
तव॒ त्ये अ॑ग्ने ह॒रितो॑ घृत॒स्ना रोहि॑तास ऋ॒ज्वञ्चः॒ स्वञ्चः॑ । अ॒रु॒षासो॒ वृष॑ण ऋजुमु॒ष्का आ दे॒वता॑तिमह्वन्त द॒स्माः ॥ (९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे दीप्तिशाली अग्नि! तुम्हारा गमन मार्ग काला है, तुम्हारे आगे-आगे चलता है एवं तुम्हारा गतिशील तेज रूपशालियों में सर्वोत्तम है. यजमान तुम्हें न पाकर तुम्हारी उत्पत्ति में कारण काष्ठ को रखते हैं. इसके बाद तुम शीघ्र उत्पन्न होकर यजमान के दूत बनते हो (९)
EN English Translation
O glorious agni! Your path of movement is black, it moves ahead of you, and your movement is the best of the brightest of the models. Hosts do not find you and keep the causal wood in your genesis. After this you are soon born and become messengers of the host (9)
ये ह॒ त्ये ते॒ सह॑माना अ॒यास॑स्त्वे॒षासो॑ अग्ने अ॒र्चय॒श्चर॑न्ति । श्ये॒नासो॒ न दु॑वस॒नासो॒ अर्थं॑ तुविष्व॒णसो॒ मारु॑तं॒ न शर्धः॑ ॥ (१०)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अरणिमंथन के पश्चात् उत्पन्न अग्नि का तेज ऋत्विजों को दिखाई देता है. जब अग्नि की लपटों को लक्ष्य करके हवा चलती है तो अग्नि अपनी ज्वाला को वृक्षों से मिला देते हैं एवं स्थिर काष्ठों को अपने तेज से जला देते हैं. (१०)
EN English Translation
The brightness of the agni produced after aranimanthan is visible to the rituals. When the wind moves by targeting the flames of the agni, the agni mixes its flame with the trees and burns the still wood with its fast. (10)
अका॑रि॒ ब्रह्म॑ समिधान॒ तुभ्यं॒ शंसा॑त्यु॒क्थं यज॑ते॒ व्यू॑ धाः । होता॑रम॒ग्निं मनु॑षो॒ नि षे॑दुर्नम॒स्यन्त॑ उ॒शिजः॒ शंस॑मा॒योः ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अग्नि अपनी लपटों द्वारा लकड़ियों को शीघ्र ही जला देते हैं. महान् अग्नि स्वयं को तेज चलने वाला दूत बनाते हैं एवं लकड़ियों को विशेष रूप से जलाते हुए वायु की शक्ति से सहायता लेते हैं. जिस प्रकार सवार घोड़े को शक्तिशाली बनाता है, उसी प्रकार अग्नि अपनी किरणों को बलयुक्त करते हैं. (११)
EN English Translation
The agnis burn the wood quickly by their flames. Great agnis make themselves fast-moving messengers and take help from the power of the air, especially by burning wood. Just as the rider makes the horse powerful, so the agni forces its rays. (11)
