श्वि॒त्यञ्चो॑ मा दक्षिण॒तस्क॑पर्दा धियंजि॒न्वासो॑ अ॒भि हि प्र॑म॒न्दुः । उ॒त्तिष्ठ॑न्वोचे॒ परि॑ ब॒र्हिषो॒ नॄन्न मे॑ दू॒रादवि॑तवे॒ वसि॑ष्ठाः ॥ (१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
गोरे रंग वाले, यज्ञकर्म पूर्ण करने वाले एवं शिर के दक्षिण भाग में चोटी रखने वाले वसिष्ठपुत्र मुझे प्रसन्न करते हैं. मैं यज्ञ से उठता हुआ उनसे कहता हूं कि हे वसिष्ठपुत्रो! मुझसे दूर मत जाओ. (१)
EN English Translation
Vasishtaputra, who is white in colour, who completes the yagnakarmas and has a peak in the southern part of the head, pleases me. I get up from the yajna and say to them, 'O Vasishtaputra! Don't go away from me. (1)
दू॒रादिन्द्र॑मनय॒न्ना सु॒तेन॑ ति॒रो वै॑श॒न्तमति॒ पान्त॑मु॒ग्रम् । पाश॑द्युम्नस्य वाय॒तस्य॒ सोमा॑त्सु॒तादिन्द्रो॑ऽवृणीता॒ वसि॑ष्ठान् ॥ (२)

वसिष्ठपुत्र वयत्सुत पाशद्युम्न का दूर से तिरस्कार करके चमस में भरे सोमरस को पीते हुए इंद्र को ले आए थे. इंद्र ने भी उसे छोड़कर सोमरस निचोड़ने वाले वसिष्ठपुत्रों को स्वीकार किया था. (२)
EN English Translation
Vasishtaputra Vaytsut had brought Indra to Indra by drinking somras filled with spoons by despising Pasdyuman from a distance. Indra had also abandoned him and accepted the Vasishthaputras who had squeezed the Somras. (2)
ए॒वेन्नु कं॒ सिन्धु॑मेभिस्ततारे॒वेन्नु कं॑ भे॒दमे॑भिर्जघान । ए॒वेन्नु कं॑ दाशरा॒ज्ञे सु॒दासं॒ प्राव॒दिन्द्रो॒ ब्रह्म॑णा वो वसिष्ठाः ॥ (३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
इसी प्रकार वसिष्ठपुत्रों ने सुखपूर्वक सिंधु नदी को पार किया था. इसी प्रकार इन्होंने भेद नामक शत्रु को मारा. हे वसिष्ठपुत्रो! इसी प्रकार दाशराज्ञ युद्ध में तुम्हारे मंत्रों की शक्ति से इंद्र ने सुदास राजा की रक्षा की थी. (३)
EN English Translation
Similarly, the Vasishtaputras had happily crossed the Indus river. In the same way, they killed an enemy called Bhed. O vasishthaputras! Similarly, indra had protected the sudas king by the power of your mantras in the dashragya war. (3)
जुष्टी॑ नरो॒ ब्रह्म॑णा वः पितॄ॒णामक्ष॑मव्ययं॒ न किला॑ रिषाथ । यच्छक्व॑रीषु बृह॒ता रवे॒णेन्द्रे॒ शुष्म॒मद॑धाता वसिष्ठाः ॥ (४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे नेताओ! तुम्हारे स्तोत्र से पितर प्रसन्न होते हैं. मैं अपने आश्रम को जाने के लिए रथ का पहिया चला रहा हूं. तुम क्षीण मत होना. हे वसिष्ठपुत्रो! तुमने शक्वरी नामक त्रचाओं द्वारा एवं श्रेष्ठ शब्द से इंद्र का बल पाया है. (४)
EN English Translation
Hey leaders! Your fathers are pleased with your hymns. I am driving the wheel of the chariot to go to my ashram. Don't let you be weak. O vasishthaputras! You have gained the strength of Indra through the trichas called Shakrawi and by the best word. (4)
उद्द्यामि॒वेत्तृ॒ष्णजो॑ नाथि॒तासोऽदी॑धयुर्दाशरा॒ज्ञे वृ॒तासः॑ । वसि॑ष्ठस्य स्तुव॒त इन्द्रो॑ अश्रोदु॒रुं तृत्सु॑भ्यो अकृणोदु लो॒कम् ॥ (५)

प्यासे एवं राजाओं से घिरे हुए वसिष्ठपुत्रों ने वर्षा की याचना करते हुए दाशराज्ञ युद्ध में इंद्र को सूर्य के समान ऊपर उठाया था. वसिष्ठ की स्तुतियां इंद्र ने सुनी थी एवं तृत्सु राजाओं को विस्तृत राज्य दिया था. (५)
EN English Translation
The thirsty and surrounded by kings, vasishtaputras raised Indra like the sun in the Dashragyana war, pleading for rain. The praises of Vasishta were heard by Indra and gave a wide kingdom to the Tritsu kings. (5)
द॒ण्डा इ॒वेद्गो॒अज॑नास आस॒न्परि॑च्छिन्ना भर॒ता अ॑र्भ॒कासः॑ । अभ॑वच्च पुरए॒ता वसि॑ष्ठ॒ आदित्तृत्सू॑नां॒ विशो॑ अप्रथन्त ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जिस प्रकार गायों को हांकने वाले डंडे संख्या में कम एवं सीमित आकार के होते हैं, उसी प्रकार शन्रुओं से घिरे हुए भरतवंशी अल्पसंख्यक थे. इसके बाद वसिष्ठ ऋषि भरतवंशियों के पुरोहित बने एवं तृत्सु राजाओं की प्रजा बढ़ने लगी. (६)
EN English Translation
Just as the poles that drive cows are of small and limited size in number, so were the Bharatvanshis, surrounded by shanrus, were a minority. After this, Vasishta sage became the priest of the Bharatvanshis and the people of the Titsu kings began to grow. (6)
त्रयः॑ कृण्वन्ति॒ भुव॑नेषु॒ रेत॑स्ति॒स्रः प्र॒जा आर्या॒ ज्योति॑रग्राः । त्रयो॑ घ॒र्मास॑ उ॒षसं॑ सचन्ते॒ सर्वा॒ँ इत्ताँ अनु॑ विदु॒र्वसि॑ष्ठाः ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अग्नि, वायु और सूर्य-तीनों लोकों में जल उत्पन्न करते हैं. ये तीनों श्रेष्ठप्रजा एवं अतिशय दीप्तिमान हैं. ये तीनों दीप्तिशाली उषा का वरण करते हैं. वसिष्ठ के पुत्र इन्हें जानते हैं. (७)
EN English Translation
Fire, air and sun produce water in all three realms. These three are superior and very bright. These three choose the bright usha. Vasishtha's sons know them. (7)
सूर्य॑स्येव व॒क्षथो॒ ज्योति॑रेषां समु॒द्रस्ये॑व महि॒मा ग॑भी॒रः । वात॑स्येव प्रज॒वो नान्येन॒ स्तोमो॑ वसिष्ठा॒ अन्वे॑तवे वः ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे वसिष्ठपुत्रो! तुम्हारी महिमा सूर्य के समान प्रकाशित एवं सागर के समान गंभीर है. वायुवेग के समान तुम्हारी महिमा का भी दूसरा कोई अनुमान नहीं कर सकता. (८)
EN English Translation
O vasishthaputras! Your glory is as illuminated as the sun and as serious as the ocean. No one else can guess your glory like the air velocity. (8)
त इन्नि॒ण्यं हृद॑यस्य प्रके॒तैः स॒हस्र॑वल्शम॒भि सं च॑रन्ति । य॒मेन॑ त॒तं प॑रि॒धिं वय॑न्तोऽप्स॒रस॒ उप॑ सेदु॒र्वसि॑ष्ठाः ॥ (९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
वे वसिष्ठपुत्र अपने हृदय के ज्ञान द्वारा अंतर्हित होकर हजार शाखाओं वाले संसार में घूमते हैं. वे यम द्वारा विस्तारित वस्त्र को बुनते हुए अप्सरा के पास गए. (९)
EN English Translation
Those vasishtaputras, intertwined by the knowledge of their hearts, roam around in a world of thousand branches. They went to the nymph, knitting the cloth extended by Yama. (9)
वि॒द्युतो॒ ज्योतिः॒ परि॑ सं॒जिहा॑नं मि॒त्रावरु॑णा॒ यदप॑श्यतां त्वा । तत्ते॒ जन्मो॒तैकं॑ वसिष्ठा॒गस्त्यो॒ यत्त्वा॑ वि॒श आ॑ज॒भार॑ ॥ (१०)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे वसिष्ठ! तुम्हें बिजली के समान ज्योतिरूप आत्मा का त्याग करते हुए मित्र व वरुण ने देखा था. वह तुम्हारा एक जन्म था. इससे पहले अगस्त्य तुम्हें तुम्हारे वासस्थान से लाए थे. (१०)
EN English Translation
O Vasishtha! You were seen by friends and Varuna sacrificing the spirit of light like electricity. He was a birth of yours. Before that Agastya brought you from your place of residence. (10)
उ॒तासि॑ मैत्रावरु॒णो व॑सिष्ठो॒र्वश्या॑ ब्रह्म॒न्मन॒सोऽधि॑ जा॒तः । द्र॒प्सं स्क॒न्नं ब्रह्म॑णा॒ दैव्ये॑न॒ विश्वे॑ दे॒वाः पुष्क॑रे त्वाददन्त ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे वसिष्ठ! तुम मित्र व वरुण के पुत्र हो. हे ब्रह्मन्! तुम उर्वशी के मन से उत्पन्न हुए हो. उर्वशी को देखकर मित्र व अरुण का वीर्य स्खलित हुआ था. उस समय सभी देवों ने दिव्य स्तोत्र बोलते हुए तुम्हें पुष्कर में धारण किया था. (११)
EN English Translation
O Vasishtha! You are the son of a friend and Varun. O Brahman! You originated from Urvashi's mind. Seeing Urvashi, the semen of the friend and Arun was ejaculated. At that time all the gods had held you in Pushkar while speaking the divine hymn. (11)
स प्र॑के॒त उ॒भय॑स्य प्रवि॒द्वान्स॒हस्र॑दान उ॒त वा॒ सदा॑नः । य॒मेन॑ त॒तं प॑रि॒धिं व॑यि॒ष्यन्न॑प्स॒रसः॒ परि॑ जज्ञे॒ वसि॑ष्ठः ॥ (१२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
उत्तम ज्ञान वाले वसिष्ठ स्वर्ग एवं धरती दोनों को जानकर हजार दान करने वाले अथवा सर्वस्व दान करने वाले हुए थे. यम के द्वारा विस्तृत वस्त्र को बुनने की अभिलाषा से वसिष्ठ अप्सरा से उत्पन्न हुए थे. (१२)
EN English Translation
Vasishtha, who had the best knowledge, knew both heaven and earth and became the giver of a thousand donators or all. Vasishtha was born of a nymph with the desire to weave the cloth wide through Yama. (12)
स॒त्रे ह॑ जा॒तावि॑षि॒ता नमो॑भिः कु॒म्भे रेतः॑ सिषिचतुः समा॒नम् । ततो॑ ह॒ मान॒ उदि॑याय॒ मध्या॒त्ततो॑ जा॒तमृषि॑माहु॒र्वसि॑ष्ठम् ॥ (१३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
यज्ञ में दीक्षित मित्र और वरुण ने दूसरे लोगो की स्तुतियां एवं प्रार्थनाएं मान कर अपना वीर्य एक साथ घड़े में स्खलित किया था. उस घड़े से आगस्त्य उत्पन्न हुए. लोग वसिष्ठ ऋषि को भी उसी घड़े से उत्पन्न बताते हैं. (१३)
EN English Translation
In the yajna, Dixit Mitra and Varuna had absorbed their semen together in a pitcher by accepting the praises and prayers of other people. The agnis originated from that pitcher. People also describe vasishta rishi as originating from the same pitcher. (13)
उ॒क्थ॒भृतं॑ साम॒भृतं॑ बिभर्ति॒ ग्रावा॑णं॒ बिभ्र॒त्प्र व॑दा॒त्यग्रे॑ । उपै॑नमाध्वं सुमन॒स्यमा॑ना॒ आ वो॑ गच्छाति प्रतृदो॒ वसि॑ष्ठः ॥ (१४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे तृत्सुओ! वसिष्ठ तुम्हारे पास आ रहे हैं. तुम प्रसन्नचित होकर उनकी पूजा करना. वसिष्ठ सबसे आगे रहकर मंत्रसमूह एवं सोम को धारण करते हैं. पत्थरों द्वारा सोम कूटने वाले अध्वर्यु को धारण करते हैं एवं कर्त्तव्य बताते हैं. (१४)
EN English Translation
O Tritsuo! Vasishtha is coming to you. You are pleased to worship them. Vasishta stays at the forefront and holds the mantragroup and the som. Those who are somed by stones hold the adhwaryu and show the duty. (14)
