मैन॑मग्ने॒ वि द॑हो॒ माभि शो॑चो॒ मास्य॒ त्वचं॑ चिक्षिपो॒ मा शरी॑रम् । य॒दा शृ॒तं कृ॒णवो॑ जातवे॒दोऽथे॑मेनं॒ प्र हि॑णुतात्पि॒तृभ्यः॑ ॥ (१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! इस मरे हुए व्यक्ति को पूरी तरह मत जलाओ. इसे कष्ट मत पहुंचाओ. इसके चमड़े और शरीर को इधर-उधर मत बिखेरो. हे जातवेद अग्नि! जब तुम इसे पका चुको, तभी इसे पितरों के पास भेज देना. (१)
EN English Translation
O agni! Don't burn this dead person completely. Don't make it painful. Don't scatter its skin and body around. O Jativeda Agni! Send it to the fathers only when you cook it. (1)
शृ॒तं य॒दा कर॑सि जातवे॒दोऽथे॑मेनं॒ परि॑ दत्तात्पि॒तृभ्यः॑ । य॒दा गच्छा॒त्यसु॑नीतिमे॒तामथा॑ दे॒वानां॑ वश॒नीर्भ॑वाति ॥ (२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! तुम इस मरे हुए शरीर को जब पका लो, तभी इसे पितरों के पास पहुंचा देना. जब यह दोबारा प्राण प्राप्त करेगा, तब देवों के वश में रहेगा. (२)
EN English Translation
O agni! When you cook this dead body, deliver it to the fathers. When it attains life again, it will be in the hands of the gods. (2)
सूर्यं॒ चक्षु॑र्गच्छतु॒ वात॑मा॒त्मा द्यां च॑ गच्छ पृथि॒वीं च॒ धर्म॑णा । अ॒पो वा॑ गच्छ॒ यदि॒ तत्र॑ ते हि॒तमोष॑धीषु॒ प्रति॑ तिष्ठा॒ शरी॑रैः ॥ (३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे मरे हुए व्यक्ति! तुम्हारी आंखें सूर्य को और तुम्हारा प्राण वायु को प्राप्त हो. तुम अपने धार्मिक कार्यो के कारण स्वर्ग या धरती पर जाओ. यदि जल में तुम्हारा सुख है तो वहां जाओ. तुम अपने शरीर के द्वारा ओषधियों में स्थित रहो. (३)
EN English Translation
O dead man! May your eyes meet the sun and your soul to the air. You go to heaven or earth because of your religious deeds. If you have happiness in the water, go there. You stay in the herbs through your body. (3)
अ॒जो भा॒गस्तप॑सा॒ तं त॑पस्व॒ तं ते॑ शो॒चिस्त॑पतु॒ तं ते॑ अ॒र्चिः । यास्ते॑ शि॒वास्त॒न्वो॑ जातवेद॒स्ताभि॑र्वहैनं सु॒कृता॑मु लो॒कम् ॥ (४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! इस मरे हुए व्यक्ति का जो भाग जन्मरहित है, उसीको तुम अपने ताप से तपाओ. तुम्हारी ज्वाला एवं प्रकाश उसे तपावे. हे जातवेद अग्नि! तुम अपने कल्याणकारी रूपों के द्वारा इसे उत्तम कर्म करने वालों के लोकों में ले जाओ. (४)
EN English Translation
O agni! Heat the part of this dead person which is without birth with your heat. Let your flame and light heat it. O Jativeda Agni! You take it to the realms of those who do good deeds by your welfare forms. (4)
अव॑ सृज॒ पुन॑रग्ने पि॒तृभ्यो॒ यस्त॒ आहु॑त॒श्चर॑ति स्व॒धाभिः॑ । आयु॒र्वसा॑न॒ उप॑ वेतु॒ शेषः॒ सं ग॑च्छतां त॒न्वा॑ जातवेदः ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! जो मरा हुआ व्यक्ति तुम्हारी आहुति बनकर स्वधा शब्द के साथ ऊपर जाता है, उसे पितरों के समीप जाने की प्रेरणा दो. इसके शरीर का शेष भाग जीवन प्राप्त करे. हे जातवेद अग्नि! यह व्यक्ति शरीर से पुनः मिले. (५)
EN English Translation
O agni! The dead person who goes up with the word 'swadha' as your sacrifice, inspire him to go near the fathers. The rest of its body receives life. O Jativeda Agni! This person met the body again. (5)
यत्ते॑ कृ॒ष्णः श॑कु॒न आ॑तु॒तोद॑ पिपी॒लः स॒र्प उ॒त वा॒ श्वाप॑दः । अ॒ग्निष्टद्वि॒श्वाद॑ग॒दं कृ॑णोतु॒ सोम॑श्च॒ यो ब्रा॑ह्म॒णाँ आ॑वि॒वेश॑ ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे मृत व्यक्ति! तुम्हारे जिस अंग को कोवे ने नोचा है अथवा चींटी, सांप या अन्य किसी पशु ने काटा है, अग्नि उस सबको रोगरहित करें. ब्राह्मणों के शरीर में प्रवेश करने वाले सोम भी तुम्हें निरोग बनावे. (६)
EN English Translation
O dead person! Let the agni of your organ which has been cut by the cove or cut by the ant, snake or any other animal, make it all disease-free. May the Som who enters the body of the Brahmins also make you healthy. (6)
अ॒ग्नेर्वर्म॒ परि॒ गोभि॑र्व्ययस्व॒ सं प्रोर्णु॑ष्व॒ पीव॑सा॒ मेद॑सा च । नेत्त्वा॑ धृ॒ष्णुर्हर॑सा॒ जर्हृ॑षाणो द॒धृग्वि॑ध॒क्ष्यन्प॑र्य॒ङ्खया॑ते ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे प्रेत! तुम गाय के चमड़े के साथ-साथ आग की लपटरूपी कवच को पहनो. तुम चर्बी और मांस से ढक जाओ. ऐसा होने पर अपने तेज से तुम्हें पराभूत करने वाले एवं अत्यंत प्रसन्न अनने तुम्हें नहीं जलावेंगे. वे तुम्हें विशेष रूप से जलाने को तैयार हैं. (७)
EN English Translation
O ghost! You wear cow's leather as well as flame-like armor. You get covered with fat and meat. When this happens, those who defeat you with their glory and are very happy will not burn you. They are especially willing to kindle you. (7)
इ॒मम॑ग्ने चम॒सं मा वि जि॑ह्वरः प्रि॒यो दे॒वाना॑मु॒त सो॒म्याना॑म् । ए॒ष यश्च॑म॒सो दे॑व॒पान॒स्तस्मि॑न्दे॒वा अ॒मृता॑ मादयन्ते ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! इस चमस को इधर-उधर मत करना. यह सोमरस पीने वाले देवों का प्रिय है. यह चमस देवों के सोमपान के लिए है. इसे पाकर मरणरहित देव प्रसन्न होते हैं. (८)
EN English Translation
O agni! Don't move this spoon around. This is the beloved of the gods who drink somras. This is for the sompan of the chamas devas. God without death is pleased to find it. (8)
क्र॒व्याद॑म॒ग्निं प्र हि॑णोमि दू॒रं य॒मरा॑ज्ञो गच्छतु रिप्रवा॒हः । इ॒हैवायमित॑रो जा॒तवे॑दा दे॒वेभ्यो॑ ह॒व्यं व॑हतु प्रजा॒नन् ॥ (९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
मैं मांस जलाने वाली तेज आग को दूर करता हूं. पाप को ढोने वाली वह आग यम के देश में जावे. यहां ही ये दूसरे अग्नि हैं, ऐसा जानते हुए हम देवों के लिए हव्य ले जाते हैं. (९)
EN English Translation
I remove the burning agni of meat. Let the agni that carries the sin go into the land of Yama. Knowing that these are the second agnis here, we take the vows for the gods. (9)
यो अ॒ग्निः क्र॒व्यात्प्र॑वि॒वेश॑ वो गृ॒हमि॒मं पश्य॒न्नित॑रं जा॒तवे॑दसम् । तं ह॑रामि पितृय॒ज्ञाय॑ दे॒वं स घ॒र्ममि॑न्वात्पर॒मे स॒धस्थे॑ ॥ (१०)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
मांस जलाने वाली चिता की अग्ने तुम्हारे इस घर में प्रवेश कर गई है. मैं उन्हें घर से निकालता हूं. मैं दूसरे जातवेद अग्नि को देखता हुआ उत्तम स्थान में यज्ञ के लिए प्राप्त करता हूं. यह अग्नि मेरे यज्ञ को लेकर स्वर्ग में जावें. (१०)
EN English Translation
The agni of the meat-burning pyre has entered this house of yours. I get them out of the house. I see the second Jathaveda agni and get it for the yagna in the best place. May this agni take my yajna and go to heaven. (10)
यो अ॒ग्निः क्र॑व्य॒वाह॑नः पि॒तॄन्यक्ष॑दृता॒वृधः॑ । प्रेदु॑ ह॒व्यानि॑ वोचति दे॒वेभ्य॑श्च पि॒तृभ्य॒ आ ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जो अग्ने श्राद्ध की सामग्री को पितरों तक ढोने वाले, यज्ञ को बढ़ाने वाले एवं देवपितरो का यज्ञ करने वाले हैं, मैं उन्हीं के पास होम की सामग्री ले जाता हूं. (११)
EN English Translation
Those who carry the contents of the Agne Shradh to the fathers, those who increase the yajna and perform the yajna of the deities, I take the contents of the home to them. (11)
उ॒शन्त॑स्त्वा॒ नि धी॑मह्यु॒शन्तः॒ समि॑धीमहि । उ॒शन्नु॑श॒त आ व॑ह पि॒तॄन्ह॒विषे॒ अत्त॑वे ॥ (१२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! मैं तुम्हारी कामना करता हुआ तुम्हें स्थापित करता हूं एवं प्रज्वलित करता हूं. तुम भी कामना करते हुए हव्य की अभिलाषा करने वाले देवों के पास होम की सामग्री इसलिए ले जाओ कि वे उसे खा सकें. (१२)
EN English Translation
O agni! I set you up and ignite you while I wish you. You too, wishing, take the contents of the home to the gods who wish for havya so that they can eat it. (12)
यं त्वम॑ग्ने स॒मद॑ह॒स्तमु॒ निर्वा॑पया॒ पुनः॑ । कि॒याम्ब्वत्र॑ रोहतु पाकदू॒र्वा व्य॑ल्कशा ॥ (१३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! तुमने जिसे जलाया है, उसे पुनः बुझाओ. जिस जगह पर कुछ जल भरा हो और अनेक शाखाओं वाली पकी दूब खड़ी हो. (१३)
EN English Translation
O agni! Re-extinguish what you have burned. A place where there is some water filled and a ripe doob with many branches is standing. (13)
शीति॑के॒ शीति॑कावति॒ ह्लादि॑के॒ ह्लादि॑कावति । म॒ण्डू॒क्या॒३॒॑ सु सं ग॑म इ॒मं स्व१॒॑ग्निं ह॑र्षय ॥ (१४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे शीतल एवं वनस्पतियों से युक्त पृथिवी! तुम लोगों को प्रसन्न करती हो. तुम्हारे ऊपर बहुत आह्लादक वनस्पतियां हैं. तुम ऐसी वर्षा लाओ, जिससे मेंढक संतुष्ट हों. तुम अग्नि को प्रसन्न करो. (१४)
EN English Translation
It is a cold earth with vegetation and vegetation! It pleases you people. You have a lot of scaly vegetation above you. Bring you a rain that satisfies the frogs. Please the agni. (14)
