ह॒विष्पान्त॑म॒जरं॑ स्व॒र्विदि॑ दिवि॒स्पृश्याहु॑तं॒ जुष्ट॑म॒ग्नौ । तस्य॒ भर्म॑णे॒ भुव॑नाय दे॒वा धर्म॑णे॒ कं स्व॒धया॑ पप्रथन्त ॥ (१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
पीने योग्य, जरारहित एवं देवों का प्रिय सोमरसरूपी हव्य सूर्य को जानने वाले एवं स्वर्गस्थ अग्नि को होम किया जाता है. देवगण सोम उत्पादन पूर्ति और धारण के लिए सुखकर अग्नि को अन्न से बढ़ाते हैं. (१)
EN English Translation
Drinkable, uninhabitable and beloved somrass of gods is home to the one who knows the sun and the heavenly agni. Devgan Som increases the agni with food for production, fulfillment and holding. (1)
गी॒र्णं भुव॑नं॒ तम॒साप॑गूळ्हमा॒विः स्व॑रभवज्जा॒ते अ॒ग्नौ । तस्य॑ दे॒वाः पृ॑थि॒वी द्यौरु॒तापोऽर॑णय॒न्नोष॑धीः स॒ख्ये अ॑स्य ॥ (२)

अंधकार द्वारा निगला हुआ एवं अंधकार में छिपा हुआ संसार अग्नि के उत्पन्न होने पर प्रकट होता है. उस अनने के मैत्रीपूर्ण कार्य से देवगण पृथ्वी स्वर्ग, जल एवं ओषधियां-सब प्रस्न होते हैं. (२)
EN English Translation
The world, swallowed by darkness and hidden in darkness, appears when agni is created. By the friendly work of that ane, the gods are presented to the earth, heaven, water and herbs. (2)
दे॒वेभि॒र्न्वि॑षि॒तो य॒ज्ञिये॑भिर॒ग्निं स्तो॑षाण्य॒जरं॑ बृ॒हन्त॑म् । यो भा॒नुना॑ पृथि॒वीं द्यामु॒तेमामा॑त॒तान॒ रोद॑सी अ॒न्तरि॑क्षम् ॥ (३)

यज्ञ के योग्य देवों द्वारा शीघ्र प्रेरित मैं जरारहित एवं विशाल अग्नि की स्तुति करता हूं. अग्नि ने अपने तेज से धरती, द्यौ, इनके मध्यभाग एवं आकाश को विस्तृत किया है. (३)
EN English Translation
I praise the uninitiated and vast agni, promptly inspired by the deities worthy of yajna. The agni has expanded the earth, the earth, the earth, its middle part and the sky with its brightness. (3)
यो होतासी॑त्प्रथ॒मो दे॒वजु॑ष्टो॒ यं स॒माञ्ज॒न्नाज्ये॑ना वृणा॒नाः । स प॑त॒त्री॑त्व॒रं स्था जग॒द्यच्छ्वा॒त्रम॒ग्निर॑कृणोज्जा॒तवे॑दाः ॥ (४)

जो अग्नि देवों द्वारा सेवित होकर पहले होता बने थे एवं वर के अभिलाषी यजमान जिन्हें घी से सींचते हैं, उन अग्नि ने अपने तेज से पक्षियों गतिशील सांप आदि तथा स्थावरजंगम रूप संसार को शीघ्र ही उत्पन्न किया. (४)
EN English Translation
The agni which was served by the gods and made before and the beloved hosts of the bridegroom, who are irrigated with ghee, those agnis with their brightness, the birds, the moving snakes, etc., and the real form of the world, quickly produced the world. (4)
यज्जा॑तवेदो॒ भुव॑नस्य मू॒र्धन्नति॑ष्ठो अग्ने स॒ह रो॑च॒नेन॑ । तं त्वा॑हेम म॒तिभि॑र्गी॒र्भिरु॒क्थैः स य॒ज्ञियो॑ अभवो रोदसि॒प्राः ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे जातवेद अग्नि! तुम आदित्य के साथ तीनों लोकों के सिर पर स्थित होते हो. हम तुम्हें अर्चनीय स्तुतियों एवं मंत्रं द्वारा प्राप्त करते हैं. तुम यज्ञ के पात्र एवं द्यावा-पृथिवी को पूर्ण करने वाले हो. (५)
EN English Translation
O Jativeda Agni! You are located on the heads of all the three lokas with Aditya. We receive you through inspirational hymns and mantras. You are going to complete the vessel of the yajna and the dyava-prithvivi. (5)
मू॒र्धा भु॒वो भ॑वति॒ नक्त॑म॒ग्निस्ततः॒ सूर्यो॑ जायते प्रा॒तरु॒द्यन् । मा॒यामू॒ तु य॒ज्ञिया॑नामे॒तामपो॒ यत्तूर्णि॒श्चर॑ति प्रजा॒नन् ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अग्नि रात के समय सभी प्राणियों के मूर्धारूप बन जाते हैं एवं प्रातः उदय होते हुए सूर्य बन जाते हैं. अग्नि को यज्ञ-संपादक देवों की बुद्धि कहा जाता है एवं वे सबको जानते हुए सब स्थानों में जल्दी-जल्दी चलते हैं. (६)
EN English Translation
Fire becomes the idol of all beings at night and becomes the sun in the morning. Agni is called the wisdom of the yajna-editor gods and they walk quickly in all places knowing everyone. (6)
दृ॒शेन्यो॒ यो म॑हि॒ना समि॒द्धोऽरो॑चत दि॒वियो॑निर्वि॒भावा॑ । तस्मि॑न्न॒ग्नौ सू॑क्तवा॒केन॑ दे॒वा ह॒विर्विश्व॒ आजु॑हवुस्तनू॒पाः ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जो अग्नि अपने महत्त्व के कारण दर्शनीय, प्रज्वलित स्वर्ग में स्थित एवं तेजस्वी बनकर दीप्त होते हैं, उन्हीं अग्नि के अंगरक्षक देवों ने स्तुतियां पढ़ते हुए हव्य डाला. (७)
EN English Translation
The agnis which are visible, illuminated by virtue of their importance, located in a blazing heaven and bright, the bodyguards of the same agni, the gods, reciting the praises, gave a havya. (7)
सू॒क्त॒वा॒कं प्र॑थ॒ममादिद॒ग्निमादिद्ध॒विर॑जनयन्त दे॒वाः । स ए॑षां य॒ज्ञो अ॑भवत्तनू॒पास्तं द्यौर्वे॑द॒ तं पृ॑थि॒वी तमापः॑ ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
देवों ने सबसे पहले मन से सूक्त वचन का चिंतन किया. इसके पश्चात् हव्य को उत्पन्न किया. वे अग्नि देवों के यज्ञपात्र एवं शरीररक्षक बने. उन अग्नि को झुलोक, पृथ्वी और अंतरिक्ष जानते हैं. (८)
EN English Translation
The gods first thought of the sukta word from the mind. After this, the havya was produced. He became the sacrificial and body protector of the agni gods. Those agnis know the jhullok, earth and space. (8)
यं दे॒वासोऽज॑नयन्ता॒ग्निं यस्मि॒न्नाजु॑हवु॒र्भुव॑नानि॒ विश्वा॑ । सो अ॒र्चिषा॑ पृथि॒वीं द्यामु॒तेमामृ॑जू॒यमा॑नो अतपन्महि॒त्वा ॥ (९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जिस अग्नि को देवों ने उत्पन्न किया, जिस अग्ने में विश्व की सब वस्तुओं का हवन किया जाता है. वह ही सरल गति वाले अग्नि अपनी विशाल ज्वाला से इस धरती और स्वर्ग को तृप्त करते हैं. (९)
EN English Translation
The agni which the gods created, in which all the things of the world are worshipped. The same simple-speed agni satisfies this earth and heaven with its huge flame. (9)
स्तोमे॑न॒ हि दि॒वि दे॒वासो॑ अ॒ग्निमजी॑जन॒ञ्छक्ति॑भी रोदसि॒प्राम् । तमू॑ अकृण्वन्त्रे॒धा भु॒वे कं स ओष॑धीः पचति वि॒श्वरू॑पाः ॥ (१०)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
देवों ने स्वर्ग में केवल स्तुतियों द्वारा द्यावा-पृथिवी को पूर्ण करने वाले अग्नि को अपनी शक्ति से उत्पन्न किया. उस सुखकारक अग्नि को देवों ने तीन भागों में विभक्त किया. वही अग्नि समस्त ओषधियों को पकाती है. (१०)
EN English Translation
The gods created the agni in heaven only by the praises that perfected the dyava-prithvivi by their power. The gods divided that soothing agni into three parts. The same agni cooks all the herbs. (10)
य॒देदे॑न॒मद॑धुर्य॒ज्ञिया॑सो दि॒वि दे॒वाः सूर्य॑मादिते॒यम् । य॒दा च॑रि॒ष्णू मि॑थु॒नावभू॑ता॒मादित्प्राप॑श्य॒न्भुव॑नानि॒ विश्वा॑ ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जिस समय यज्ञ के पात्र देवों ने इस अग्नि और अदितिपुत्र देवों को स्वर्ग में स्थापित किया, वे उस समय जोड़े से विचरण करने वाले बन गए तभी सब प्राणियों ने उन्हें देखा. (११)
EN English Translation
At the time when the characters of the yajna, the gods, installed this agni and the Aditiputra devas in heaven, they became the ones who wandered from the couple at that time, only then all the beings saw them. (11)
विश्व॑स्मा अ॒ग्निं भुव॑नाय दे॒वा वै॑श्वान॒रं के॒तुमह्ना॑मकृण्वन् । आ यस्त॒तानो॒षसो॑ विभा॒तीरपो॑ ऊर्णोति॒ तमो॑ अ॒र्चिषा॒ यन् ॥ (१२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
देवों ने सारे संसार के कल्याण के लिए वैश्वानर अग्नि को दिनों का ज्ञान कराने वाला बनाया है. अग्नि विशेष-प्रकाश वाली उषाओं को विस्तृत करते हैं एवं जाते समय सारे संसार को अंधकार के समूह में डुबा देते हैं. (१२)
EN English Translation
The gods have made the Vaishnavar Agni a provider of knowledge of the days for the welfare of the whole world. Fire expands the special-light ushas and immerses the whole world in a group of darkness while leaving. (12)
वै॒श्वा॒न॒रं क॒वयो॑ य॒ज्ञिया॑सो॒ऽग्निं दे॒वा अ॑जनयन्नजु॒र्यम् । नक्ष॑त्रं प्र॒त्नममि॑नच्चरि॒ष्णु य॒क्षस्याध्य॑क्षं तवि॒षं बृ॒हन्त॑म् ॥ (१३)

विद्वान् एवं यज्ञपात्र देवों ने जरारहित सूर्यरूपी वैश्वानर अग्नि को उत्पन्न किया. अग्नि ने प्राचीन, घूमने वाले, विस्तृत एवं महान् नक्षत्रों को देवों के सामने ही तेजहीन कर दिया. (१३)
EN English Translation
The learned and sacrificial devas created the vaishvanar agni in the form of a slightly unblemished sun. The agni made the ancient, rotating, wide and great constellations bright before the gods. (13)
वै॒श्वा॒न॒रं वि॒श्वहा॑ दीदि॒वांसं॒ मन्त्रै॑र॒ग्निं क॒विमच्छा॑ वदामः । यो म॑हि॒म्ना प॑रिब॒भूवो॒र्वी उ॒तावस्ता॑दु॒त दे॒वः प॒रस्ता॑त् ॥ (१४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
सर्वदा प्रकाशमय, पैनी मेधा वाले और संसार का उपकार करने वाले अग्नि की हम स्तुति करते हैं. वे वैश्वानर अग्नि अपनी महिमा से द्यावा-पृथिवी को भी तिरस्कृत कर ऊपरनीचे तपते हैं. (१४)
EN English Translation
We always praise the agni that is light, the one with the panny, the one who has done good to the world and the bounty of the world. They also despise the Vaishvanar Agni with their glory and heat the bottom. (14)
द्वे स्रु॒ती अ॑शृणवं पितॄ॒णाम॒हं दे॒वाना॑मु॒त मर्त्या॑नाम् । ताभ्या॑मि॒दं विश्व॒मेज॒त्समे॑ति॒ यद॑न्त॒रा पि॒तरं॑ मा॒तरं॑ च ॥ (१५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
मैंने पितरों, देवों एवं मानवों के दो मार्ग सुने हैं. आगे बढ़ता हुआ यह संसार उन्हीं पर जाता है. माता और पिता से जन्मा हुआ इन्हीं से जाता है. (१५)
EN English Translation
I have heard two paths of fathers, gods and human beings. This world goes on and on, it goes on them. Born to mother and father goes by them. (15)
द्वे स॑मी॒ची बि॑भृत॒श्चर॑न्तं शीर्ष॒तो जा॒तं मन॑सा॒ विमृ॑ष्टम् । स प्र॒त्यङ्विश्वा॒ भुव॑नानि तस्था॒वप्र॑युच्छन्त॒रणि॒र्भ्राज॑मानः ॥ (१६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
परस्पर संगत द्यावा-पृथिवी में विचरण करते हुए सबसे शीर्षरूप आदित्य से उत्पन्न व स्तुतियों से संस्कृत अग्नि को धारण करने वाले, प्रभावहीन, शीघ्रता करने वाले एवं तेजस्वी वैश्वानर सभी लोकों के सम्मुख ठहरते हैं. (१६)
EN English Translation
While moving in the inter-compatible Dyava-Prithvivi, the most prominent form is born of Aditya and who possesses sanskrit agni from the praises, the ineffective, the hasty and the bright Vaishvanar, stand before all the people. (16)
यत्रा॒ वदे॑ते॒ अव॑रः॒ पर॑श्च यज्ञ॒न्योः॑ कत॒रो नौ॒ वि वे॑द । आ शे॑कु॒रित्स॑ध॒मादं॒ सखा॑यो॒ नक्ष॑न्त य॒ज्ञं क इ॒दं वि वो॑चत् ॥ (१७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जिस समय पार्थिव अग्नि और वायु परस्पर विवाद करते हैं कि हम यज्ञकर्म के नेताओं में यज्ञ को कौन अधिक जानता है, उस समय मित्र ऋत्विज् यज्ञ करते हैं. वे यह निर्णय नहीं कर पाते कि कौन ठीक है? (१७)
EN English Translation
At the time when the earthly agni and the air dispute amongst us as to who among the leaders of the yajnakarma knows the yajna better, at that time the friends perform the ritwij yajna. They can't decide who's right. (17)
कत्य॒ग्नयः॒ कति॒ सूर्या॑सः॒ कत्यु॒षासः॒ कत्यु॑ स्वि॒दापः॑ । नोप॒स्पिजं॑ वः पितरो वदामि पृ॒च्छामि॑ वः कवयो वि॒द्मने॒ कम् ॥ (१८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे विद्वान् पितरो! मैं तुमसे स्पर्धा वाली बात नहीं कर रहा हूं. मैं केवल जानने के लिए पूछ रहा हूं कि अग्नियां, सूर्य उषाएं एवं जल कितने हैं. (१८)
EN English Translation
O scholar! I'm not talking to you about competition. I am only asking to know how many agnis, sun bodies and water are. (18)
या॒व॒न्मा॒त्रमु॒षसो॒ न प्रती॑कं सुप॒र्ण्यो॒३॒॑ वस॑ते मातरिश्वः । ताव॑द्दधा॒त्युप॑ य॒ज्ञमा॒यन्ब्रा॑ह्म॒णो होतु॒रव॑रो नि॒षीद॑न् ॥ (१९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे वायु! जब तक रात्रियां उषा के मुख से परदा नहीं हटा देतीं, तब तक नीचे स्थित होता और स्तोता पार्थिव अग्नि यज्ञ के समीप आकर बैठ जाते हैं. (१९)
EN English Translation
O air! Until the nights remove the curtain from Usha's mouth, it is located below and the stota sits near the earthly agni yajna. (19)
