Description
The Srimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata Purana) is considered the ripened fruit of the tree of Vedic literature. It is the most important of the 18 Mahapuranas and is devoted primarily to the life and leelas (divine plays) of Lord Krishna.
Consisting of 12 Skandhas (cantos) and approximately 18,000 verses, it covers the creation of the universe, the avatars of Vishnu, the story of Prahlada, the churning of the ocean, and most famously, the enchanting childhood and youth of Lord Krishna in Vrindavan.
The Bhagavatam is the primary text for the Krishna Bhakti movement and has been commented upon by Adi Shankaracharya, Sridhara Swami, and many other great teachers.
