यद॒दः सं॑प्रय॒तीरहा॒वन॑दता ह॒ते । तस्मा॒दा न॒द्यो॒ नाम॑ स्थ॒ ता वो॒ नामा॑नि सिन्धवः ॥ (१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे जल! मेघों के द्वारा ताड़ित हो कर इधरउधर गमन करने और नाद करने के कारण तुम्हारा नाम नदी हुआ है. हे बहने वाले जल! तुम्हारे उदक आदि अन्य नाम भी इसी प्रकार सार्थक हैं. (१)
EN English Translation
O water! You have been named river because of being chastised by the clouds and moving around and making noises. O flowing water! Other names like your udak etc. are also meaningful in the same way. (1)
यत्प्रेषि॑ता॒ वरु॑णे॒नाच्छीभं॑ स॒मव॑ल्गत । तदा॑प्नो॒दिन्द्रो॑ वो य॒तीस्तस्मा॒दापो॒ अनु॑ ष्ठन ॥ (२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
राजा वरुण के द्वारा प्रेरित होने के तुरंत बाद तुम एकत्र हो कर नृत्य करने लगे थे. उस समय तुम्हें द्र प्राप्त हुए थे. इस कारण तुम्हारा नाम आप हुआ. (२)
EN English Translation
Soon after being inspired by King Varuna, you started dancing together. At that time you received the vision. That\'s why your name is you. (2)
अ॑पका॒मं स्यन्द॑माना॒ अवी॑वरत वो॒ हि क॑म् । इन्द्रो॑ वः॒ शक्ति॑भिर्देवी॒स्तस्मा॒द्वार्नाम॑ वो हि॒तम् ॥ (३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
बिना किसी कामना के बहने वाले तुम्हारा वरण इंद्र ने अपनी शक्ति से किया था. हे क्रीड़ा करने वाले जल! इस कारण तुम्हारा नाम वारि पड़ा. (३)
EN English Translation
Indra, who flowed without any desire, did your choice with his power. O sports water! That's why you got the name Wari. (3)
एको॑ वो दे॒वोऽप्य॑तिष्ठ॒त्स्यन्द॑माना यथाव॒शम् । उदा॑निषुर्म॒हीरिति॒ तस्मा॑दुद॒कमु॑च्यते ॥ (४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अकेले इंद्र ने इच्छानुसार इधरउधर बहने वाले तुम्हें प्रतिष्ठित किया था. इंद्र से सम्मानित हो कर तुम ने अपने को महान समझ लिया. इस कारण तुम्हें उदक कहा जाता है. (४)
EN English Translation
Indra alone had distinguished you from flowing around at will. By being honored by Indra, you have considered yourself great. That's why you're called Udak. (4)
आपो॑ भ॒द्रा घृ॒तमिदाप॑ आसन्न॒ग्नीषोमौ॑ बिभ्र॒त्याप॒ इत्ताः । ती॒व्रो रसो॑ मधु॒पृचा॑मरंग॒म आ मा॑ प्रा॒णेन॑ स॒ह वर्च॑सा गमेत् ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
कल्याण करने वाला जल ही घृत हुआ. अग्नि में हवन किया हुआ घृत ही जल बन जाता है. जल ही अग्नि और सोम को धारण करता है. इस प्रकार के जल का मधुर रस कभी क्षीण न होने वाले बल के साथ मुझे प्राप्त हो. (५)
EN English Translation
The water that does welfare was melted. The ghee performed in the agni becomes water. Water is what holds agni and soma. May I get the sweet juice of this type of water with a never-diminishing force. (5)
आदित्प॑श्याम्यु॒त वा॑ शृणो॒म्या मा॒ घोषो॑ गच्छति॒ वाङ्मा॑साम् । मन्ये॑ भेजा॒नो अ॒मृत॑स्य॒ तर्हि॒ हिर॑ण्यवर्णा॒ अतृ॑पं य॒दा वः॑ ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
इस के पश्चात मैं देखता हूं और सुनता हूं कि बोले जाते हुए शब्द मेरी वाणी को प्राप्त हो रहे हैं. मैं कल्पना करता हूं कि उन जलों के आने से ही मुझे अमृत प्राप्त हुआ है. हे सुनहरे रंग वाले जलो! तुम्हारे सेवन से मैं तृप्त हो गया हूं. (६)
EN English Translation
After this, I see and hear that the spoken words are being received by my speech. I imagine that it is only by the arrival of those waters that I have received nectar. O golden-colored burn! I am satisfied with your consumption. (6)
इ॒दं व॑ आपो॒ हृद॑यम॒यं व॒त्स ऋ॑तावरीः । इ॒हेत्थमेत॑ शक्वरी॒र्यत्रे॒दं वे॒शया॑मि वः ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे जलो! यह सोना तुम्हारा हृदय है और यह मेढक तुम्हारा बछड़ा है. हे अभिमत फल देने में समर्थ जलो! इस खोदे गए स्थान में मेढक के ऊपर फेंकी हुई अबका घास उग आती है, उसी प्रकार तुम इस में स्थिर प्रवाह वाले बनो. मैं इस खोदे गए स्थान में तुम्हें प्रविष्ट कराता हूं. (७)
EN English Translation
O burn! This gold is your heart and this frog is your calf. O be able to bear the fruit of opinion! In this dug place, the grass thrown on top of the frog grows, in the same way you become a steady flow in it. I will enter you in this dug-up space. (7)
