इन्हीं इंद्र देव के बल से जो वृत्र राक्षस भयभीत हो रहा था इंद्र ने अपने वज्र से उस का शीश काट दिया एवं पाणियों द्वारा चुरा कर रखी गई गायों को मुक्त किया. इंद्र ने मेघ का भेदन कर के सभी प्राणियों की रक्षा के कारण जलों को मुक्त किया. इंद्र हवि देने वाले यजमान के समान अपना मन बना कर प्रसिद्ध अन्न प्राप्त कराएं.
