अस्ती॒दम॑धि॒मन्थ॑न॒मस्ति॑ प्र॒जन॑नं कृ॒तम् । ए॒तां वि॒श्पत्नी॒मा भ॑रा॒ग्निं म॑न्थाम पू॒र्वथा॑ ॥ (१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
यह अग्नि-मंथन का साधन तथा उसे उत्पन्न करने वाला पदार्थ है. इस विश्वपालिका अरणि को लाओ. हम पहले की तरह ही अग्नि का मंथन करेंगे. (१)
EN English Translation
It is the instrument of agni-churning and the substance that produces it. Bring this world-cranial arani. We will churn out the agni just like before. (1)
अ॒रण्यो॒र्निहि॑तो जा॒तवे॑दा॒ गर्भ॑ इव॒ सुधि॑तो ग॒र्भिणी॑षु । दि॒वेदि॑व॒ ईड्यो॑ जागृ॒वद्भि॑र्ह॒विष्म॑द्भिर्मनु॒ष्ये॑भिर॒ग्निः ॥ (२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जिस प्रकार गर्भवती नारियों में गर्भ रहता है, उसी प्रकार जातवेद अग्नि अरणियों में छिपे हैं. वे अग्नि हवि धारण करने वाले एवं यज्ञकर्म में जागरूक मनुष्यों द्वारा प्रतिदिन पूजा करने योग्य हैं. (२)
EN English Translation
Just as pregnant women are pregnant, in the same way jatavedas are hidden in agni arrows. They are worthy of being worshipped daily by people who wear agni and are conscious of the yagnakarma. (2)
उ॒त्ता॒नाया॒मव॑ भरा चिकि॒त्वान्स॒द्यः प्रवी॑ता॒ वृष॑णं जजान । अ॒रु॒षस्तू॑पो॒ रुश॑दस्य॒ पाज॒ इळा॑यास्पु॒त्रो व॒युने॑ऽजनिष्ट ॥ (३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे ज्ञानवान् अध्वर्यु! ऊपर मुखवाली निचली अरणि पर नीचे मुखवाली उत्तर अरणि रखो. उसी समय गर्भवती अरणि कामवर्षक अग्नि को उत्पन्न करे. उस में अग्नि का अंधकार-नाशक तेज था. प्रकाशित तेज वाले एवं इडा के पुत्र अर्थात् उत्तर वेदी में उत्पन्न अग्नि अरणि में प्रकट हुए. (३)
EN English Translation
O Jnanvan Aadhvaryu! Place the north arrow facing down on the lower wall. At the same time, the pregnant arna should produce a workable agni. In it was the darkness of the agni. The illuminated ones appeared in the agni arnay created in the north altar and the son of Ida, i.e., the son of Ida. (3)
इळा॑यास्त्वा प॒दे व॒यं नाभा॑ पृथि॒व्या अधि॑ । जात॑वेदो॒ नि धी॑म॒ह्यग्ने॑ ह॒व्याय॒ वोळ्ह॑वे ॥ (४)

हे जातवेद अग्नि! हम हव्य वहन करने के निमित्त तुम्हें धरती के ऊपर एवं उत्तर वेदी के मध्य भाग में स्थापित करते हैं. (४)
EN English Translation
O Jativeda Agni! We set you up above the earth and in the middle part of the north altar in order to carry the wind. (4)
मन्थ॑ता नरः क॒विमद्व॑यन्तं॒ प्रचे॑तसम॒मृतं॑ सु॒प्रती॑कम् । य॒ज्ञस्य॑ के॒तुं प्र॑थ॒मं पु॒रस्ता॑द॒ग्निं न॑रो जनयता सु॒शेव॑म् ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे यज्ञ के नेता अध्वर्युगण! क्रांतदर्शी, मन एवं वाणी से एक ही कर्म करने वाले, प्रकृष्ट ज्ञानयुक्त, मरणरहित व शोभन अंगों समेत अग्नि को मंथन द्वारा पैदा करो. हे नेताओ! यज्ञ का संकेत करने वाले, मुख्य एवं सुख से युक्त अग्नि को यज्ञकर्म के पहले ही उत्पन्न करो. (५)
EN English Translation
O leader of the yajna, adhwaryugan! Create the agni by churning out the artisan, with the mind and speech doing the same deeds, with a knowledgeable, without death and with the awe-inspiring organs. Hey leaders! Produce the agni that indicates yajna, the main and the joyful agni before the yajnakarma. (5)
यदी॒ मन्थ॑न्ति बा॒हुभि॒र्वि रो॑च॒तेऽश्वो॒ न वा॒ज्य॑रु॒षो वने॒ष्वा । चि॒त्रो न याम॑न्न॒श्विनो॒रनि॑वृतः॒ परि॑ वृण॒क्त्यश्म॑न॒स्तृणा॒ दह॑न् ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
जब हाथों से अरणि का मंथन किया जाता है, तब लकड़ियों में अग्नि इस प्रकार तीव्र गति से सुशोभित होते हैं, जिस प्रकार शीघ्रगामी अश्व अथवा अश्चिनीकुमारों का अनेक रंग का रथ शोभा पाता है. अवरोधरहित अग्नि पत्थरों और तिनकों को जलाते हुए आगे बढ़ते हैं. (६)
EN English Translation
When the arny is churned with the hands, the agni in the woods is adorned at such a rapid pace, just as the fast-moving horse or the multi-colored chariot of the Ashchinikumars adorns. The unhindered agni proceeds by burning stones and straws. (6)
जा॒तो अ॒ग्नी रो॑चते॒ चेकि॑तानो वा॒जी विप्रः॑ कविश॒स्तः सु॒दानुः॑ । यं दे॒वास॒ ईड्यं॑ विश्व॒विदं॑ हव्य॒वाह॒मद॑धुरध्व॒रेषु॑ ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
मंथन से उत्पन्न अग्नि सर्वज्ञ! नित्यगतिशील, यज्ञकर्म के ज्ञाता, मेधावी, होताओं द्वारा स्तुत एवं शोभन फलदाता के रूप में शोभा पाते हैं. इन्हीं स्तुत्य एवं सर्वज्ञ अग्नि को देवों ने यज्ञों में हव्यवाहक बनाया था. (७)
EN English Translation
The agni generated by the churning is omniscient! The regular, the knower of yajnakarma, the meritorious, the meritorious, the praises of the hotas and adorned with the gifts of fruit. These hymns and omniscient agnis were made by the gods the havan-bearers in the yagnas. (7)
सीद॑ होतः॒ स्व उ॑ लो॒के चि॑कि॒त्वान्सा॒दया॑ य॒ज्ञं सु॑कृ॒तस्य॒ योनौ॑ । दे॒वा॒वीर्दे॒वान्ह॒विषा॑ यजा॒स्यग्ने॑ बृ॒हद्यज॑माने॒ वयो॑ धाः ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे होमनिष्पादक एवं ज्ञानवान् अग्नि! तुम अपने स्थान अर्थात् उत्तर वेदी पर बैठो तथा यज्ञकर्ता यजमान को उत्तम लोक में ले जाओ. हे देवरक्षक अग्नि! हव्य द्वारा देवों की पूजा करो एवं मुझ यज्ञ करने वाले यजमान को पर्याप्त अन्न दो. (८)
EN English Translation
O home-performing and enlightening agni! You sit at your place, i.e., the north altar, and take the sacrificial host to the best realm. O God protector agni! Worship the gods through havya and give me enough food to the host who performs the yajna. (8)
कृ॒णोत॑ धू॒मं वृष॑णं सखा॒योऽस्रे॑धन्त इतन॒ वाज॒मच्छ॑ । अ॒यम॒ग्निः पृ॑तना॒षाट् सु॒वीरो॒ येन॑ दे॒वासो॒ अस॑हन्त॒ दस्यू॑न् ॥ (९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे मित्र अध्वर्यु! तुम अरणिमंथन द्वारा कामवर्षक अग्नि को उत्पन्न करो. यदि वह उत्पन्न न हो तो तुम सामर्थ्यवान् बनकर मंथनरूपी युद्ध में लगो. शोभन सामर्थ्य वाले अग्नि सेना के विजेता हैं. इन्हीं की सहायता से देवों ने असुरों को पराजित किया था. (९)
EN English Translation
O friend, Adhwaryu! You generate the workman agni by Aranimanthan. If it is not born, then you become powerful and engage in a churning war. Shobhan is the winner of the powerful Agni Sena. With the help of these, the devas defeated the asuras. (9)
अ॒यं ते॒ योनि॑रृ॒त्वियो॒ यतो॑ जा॒तो अरो॑चथाः । तं जा॒नन्न॑ग्न॒ आ सी॒दाथा॑ नो वर्धया॒ गिरः॑ ॥ (१०)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! ऋलुविशेष में उत्पन्न काष्ठ से निर्मित यह अरणि तुम्हारा उत्पत्ति स्थान है. इससे उत्पन्न होकर तुम शोभा पाते हो. इसे जानते हुए अरणि में बैठो तथा हमारे स्तुति वचनों को बढ़ाओ. (१०)
EN English Translation
O agni! This arani made from wood produced in the quiver is your place of origin. Arising out of it, you get adorned. Knowing this, sit in the arny and increase our praises. (10)
तनू॒नपा॑दुच्यते॒ गर्भ॑ आसु॒रो नरा॒शंसो॑ भवति॒ यद्वि॒जाय॑ते । मा॒त॒रिश्वा॒ यदमि॑मीत मा॒तरि॒ वात॑स्य॒ सर्गो॑ अभव॒त्सरी॑मणि ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अरणियों में गर्भरूप से वर्तमान अग्नि तनूनपात् कहे जाते हैं. उत्पन्न होने पर उनका नाम असुर तथा नराशंस हो जाता है. जब वे आकाश में अपना तेज फैलाते हैं, तब मातरिश्वा कहलाते हैं. अग्नि के शीघ्र गमन पर वायु की उत्पत्ति होती है. (११)
EN English Translation
In the aranis, the present agni is said to be the current agni trunnel. When born, their names become Asuras and Narasans. When they spread their brightness in the sky, they are called matrishava. Air is produced on the early movement of agni. (11)
सु॒नि॒र्मथा॒ निर्म॑थितः सुनि॒धा निहि॑तः क॒विः । अग्ने॑ स्वध्व॒रा कृ॑णु दे॒वान्दे॑वय॒ते य॑ज ॥ (१२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे मेधावी, शोभन मंथन से उत्पन्न एवं उत्तम स्थान में स्थापित अग्नि! हमारे यज्ञ को विघ्नरहित बनाओ एवं देवाभिलाषी यजमान के लिए देवों की पूजा करो. (१२)
EN English Translation
O meritorious, the agni born of shobhan manthan and set in the best place! Make our yajna hassle-free and worship the gods for the divine host. (12)
अजी॑जनन्न॒मृतं॒ मर्त्या॑सोऽस्रे॒माणं॑ त॒रणिं॑ वी॒ळुज॑म्भम् । दश॒ स्वसा॑रो अ॒ग्रुवः॑ समी॒चीः पुमां॑सं जा॒तम॒भि सं र॑भन्ते ॥ (१३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
मरणधर्मा ऋत्विजों ने अमर, क्षयरहित, दृढ़ दांतों वाले तथा पापोद्धारक अग्नि को जन्म दिया है. जिस प्रकार पुत्र जन्म पर लोग हर्षसूचक शब्द करते हैं, उसी प्रकार दस उंगलियां मिलकर अग्नि की उत्पत्ति पर शब्द करती हैं. (१३)
EN English Translation
The mortals have given birth to immortal, decayless, firm-toothed and sinful agni. Just as people make joyous words at the birth of a son, so ten fingers together speak on the origin of agni. (13)
प्र स॒प्तहो॑ता सन॒काद॑रोचत मा॒तुरु॒पस्थे॒ यदशो॑च॒दूध॑नि । न नि मि॑षति सु॒रणो॑ दि॒वेदि॑वे॒ यदसु॑रस्य ज॒ठरा॒दजा॑यत ॥ (१४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
सनातन एवं सात होताओं वाले अग्नि विशेष शोभा पाते हैं. जब वे अग्नि धरती माता की गोद एवं उत्तरवेदीरूपी स्तनों पर शोभित होते हैं, तब शोभन शब्द करते हैं. अरणिरूपी काठ के उदर से उत्पन्न होने के कारण वे कभी सोते नहीं हैं. (१४)
EN English Translation
Eternal and seven-sided agnis are specially adorned. When they are adorned on the lap of Mother Earth and on the north-vediform breasts, they say the word shobhan. They never sleep because they are produced from the abdomen of the lumbar. (14)
अ॒मि॒त्रा॒युधो॑ म॒रुता॑मिव प्र॒याः प्र॑थम॒जा ब्रह्म॑णो॒ विश्व॒मिद्वि॑दुः । द्यु॒म्नव॒द्ब्रह्म॑ कुशि॒कास॒ एरि॑र॒ एक॑एको॒ दमे॑ अ॒ग्निं समी॑धिरे ॥ (१५)

मरुद्गण के समान असुरों के साथ लड़ने वाले एवं ब्रह्मा से उत्पन्न कुशिकगोत्रीय ऋषि चराचर को जानते हैं, हव्य धारण करके स्तुति मंत्र पढ़ते हैं एवं अपने-अपने घर में अग्नि को प्रज्वलित करते हैं. (१५)
EN English Translation
Like the Desert, the Kushikgotriya sages who fight with the asuras and originated from Brahma know the characchar, wear a havya and recite the praise mantras and ignite the agni in their respective houses. (15)
यद॒द्य त्वा॑ प्रय॒ति य॒ज्ञे अ॒स्मिन्होत॑श्चिकि॒त्वोऽवृ॑णीमही॒ह । ध्रु॒वम॑या ध्रु॒वमु॒ताश॑मिष्ठाः प्रजा॒नन्वि॒द्वाँ उप॑ याहि॒ सोम॑म् ॥ (१६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे होमनिष्पादक एवं यज्ञकर्मज्ञानी अग्नि! इस यज्ञ में हम तुम्हारा वरण करते हैं, इसलिए तुम देवों को हमारा हव्य पहुंचाओ, उन्हें शांत करो एवं यज्ञ को जानते हुए सोम के समीप आओ. (१६)
EN English Translation
O homanarpadak and yajnakarmagnigar agni! In this yajna we choose you, so you bring our greetings to the gods, calm them down and come close to Som knowing the yajna. (16)
