अद॑र्द॒रुत्स॒मसृ॑जो॒ वि खानि॒ त्वम॑र्ण॒वान्ब॑द्बधा॒नाँ अ॑रम्णाः । म॒हान्त॑मिन्द्र॒ पर्व॑तं॒ वि यद्वः सृ॒जो वि धारा॒ अव॑ दान॒वं ह॑न् ॥ (१)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे इंद्र! तुमने मेघ को विदीर्ण किया एवं जल निकलने का मार्ग खोल दिया. इस प्रकार बाधक मेघों को विसर्जित किया है. तुमने विशाल मेघ को उन्मुक्त करके पानी बरसाया एवं वृत्र दानव को मारा. (१)
EN English Translation
O Indra! You have pierced the cloud and opened the way for the water to come out. Thus the barrier is immersed in the clouds. You released the huge cloud and poured out the water and killed the vritar demon. (1)
त्वमुत्सा॑ँ ऋ॒तुभि॑र्बद्बधा॒नाँ अरं॑ह॒ ऊधः॒ पर्व॑तस्य वज्रिन् । अहिं॑ चिदुग्र॒ प्रयु॑तं॒ शया॑नं जघ॒न्वाँ इ॑न्द्र॒ तवि॑षीमधत्थाः ॥ (२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे वज्र के स्वामी इंद्र! तुम वर्षा ऋतु में बंधे हुए मेघों को मुक्त करो एवं पर्वत को शक्तिसंपन्न बनाओ. हे शक्तिशाली इंद्र! तुमने जल में सोए हुए वृत्र को मारा एवं अपनी शक्ति को प्रसिद्ध बनाया. (२)
EN English Translation
O Lord Indra of Vajra! You free the clouds bound in the rainy season and make the mountain powerful. O mighty Indra! You hit the vitter sleeping in the water and made your power famous. (2)
त्यस्य॑ चिन्मह॒तो निर्मृ॒गस्य॒ वध॑र्जघान॒ तवि॑षीभि॒रिन्द्रः॑ । य एक॒ इद॑प्र॒तिर्मन्य॑मान॒ आद॑स्माद॒न्यो अ॑जनिष्ट॒ तव्या॑न् ॥ (३)

अद्वितीय इंद्र ने अकेले ही हिरन के समान तेज चलने वाले वृत्र के आयुधों को अपनी शक्ति द्वारा नष्ट किया. उस समय वृत्र के शरीर से दूसरा बलवान् राक्षस उत्पन्न हुआ. (३)
EN English Translation
The unique Indra alone destroyed the armaments of the warriors, which were as fast as the deer, by his power. At that time, a second strong demon arose from Vritra's body. (3)
त्यं चि॑देषां स्व॒धया॒ मद॑न्तं मि॒हो नपा॑तं सु॒वृधं॑ तमो॒गाम् । वृष॑प्रभर्मा दान॒वस्य॒ भामं॒ वज्रे॑ण व॒ज्री नि ज॑घान॒ शुष्ण॑म् ॥ (४)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
बरसने वाले मेघ को वज्र से मारने वाले वज्रधारी इंद्र ने शुष्ण असुर को मारा. वह असुर प्राणियों का अन्न खाकर प्रसन्न था, वर्षा करने वाले मेघ का रक्षक था एवं तमोगुणरूपी अंधकार के प्रति गतिशील था. (४)
EN English Translation
Vajradhari Indra, who killed the raining cloud with a thunderbolt, killed the Shushna Asura. He was happy to eat the food of the asura creatures, was the protector of the raining cloud and was moving towards the darkness of tamoguna. (4)
त्यं चि॑दस्य॒ क्रतु॑भि॒र्निष॑त्तमम॒र्मणो॑ वि॒ददिद॑स्य॒ मर्म॑ । यदीं॑ सुक्षत्र॒ प्रभृ॑ता॒ मद॑स्य॒ युयु॑त्सन्तं॒ तम॑सि ह॒र्म्ये धाः ॥ (५)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे शक्तिशाली इंद्र! तुमने नशीले सोमरस को पीकर युद्ध की अभिलाषा करने वाले वृत्र को डराकर अंधेरे में छिपने पर विवश किया था. तुमने अपने आपको दुर्बलतारहित समझने वाले वृत्र का मर्म उसके कार्यो से जान लिया था. (५)
EN English Translation
O mighty Indra! You forced the warrior, who had been thirsty to drink the intoxicating Somras, and hide in the dark. You knew the essence of the vritra, who thought you were without weakness, from his actions. (5)
त्यं चि॑दि॒त्था क॑त्प॒यं शया॑नमसू॒र्ये तम॑सि वावृधा॒नम् । तं चि॑न्मन्दा॒नो वृ॑ष॒भः सु॒तस्यो॒च्चैरिन्द्रो॑ अप॒गूर्या॑ जघान ॥ (६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
निचोड़े हुए सोमरस को पीने से प्रसन्न हुए कामवर्षी इंद्र ने अंतरिक्ष में सुखकारी जल के बीच सोने वाले एवं घने अंधकार में बढ़ते हुए वृत्र को वज्र ऊंचा उठाकर मारा था. (६)
EN English Translation
Pleased to drink the squeezed Somras, the kamvarshi Indra had hit the vritra high by raising the thunderbolt, sleeping in the midst of the soothing water in space and rising in the dense darkness. (6)
उद्यदिन्द्रो॑ मह॒ते दा॑न॒वाय॒ वध॒र्यमि॑ष्ट॒ सहो॒ अप्र॑तीतम् । यदीं॒ वज्र॑स्य॒ प्रभृ॑तौ द॒दाभ॒ विश्व॑स्य ज॒न्तोर॑ध॒मं च॑कार ॥ (७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
इंद्र ने जब उस महान् दानव वृत्र को मारने के लिए बाधाहीन वज्र उठाया था एवं वज्र का प्रहार करके उसे मारा था, तब वृत्र को विश्व के सभी प्राणियों से नीचे बना दिया था. (७)
EN English Translation
When Indra had picked up the unhindered thunderbolt to kill the great demon Vritra and hit him with a thunderbolt, he made Vritra below all the beings of the world. (7)
त्यं चि॒दर्णं॑ मधु॒पं शया॑नमसि॒न्वं व॒व्रं मह्याद॑दु॒ग्रः । अ॒पाद॑म॒त्रं म॑ह॒ता व॒धेन॒ नि दु॑र्यो॒ण आ॑वृणङ्मृ॒ध्रवा॑चम् ॥ (८)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अति बली इंद्र ने बादलों को रोककर सोने वाले, जल के रक्षक, शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले एवं सबको आच्छादन करने वाले वृत्र को पकड़ा. इसके बाद इंद्र ने चरणरहित, परिमाणहीन एवं विनष्ट-वाणी वाले वृत्र को अपने शक्तिशाली वज्र द्वारा मार डाला. (८)
EN English Translation
Indra, who stopped the clouds, caught the gold man, the protector of the water, the destroyer of the enemies and the one who covered everyone. Indra then killed the stepless, insignificant and destructive-speech-loving Vritra with his powerful thunderbolt. (8)
को अ॑स्य॒ शुष्मं॒ तवि॑षीं वरात॒ एको॒ धना॑ भरते॒ अप्र॑तीतः । इ॒मे चि॑दस्य॒ ज्रय॑सो॒ नु दे॒वी इन्द्र॒स्यौज॑सो भि॒यसा॑ जिहाते ॥ (९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
इंद्र के शोषण करने वाले बल को कौन रोक सकता है? अप्रतीत इंद्र अकेले ही शत्रुओं की संपत्तियां छीन लेते हैं. शक्तिशाली धरती-आकाश वेगयुक्त इंद्र के बल के कारण भयभीत होकर शीघ्र चलने लगे. (९)
EN English Translation
Who can stop indra's exploiting force? The unsung Indra alone takes away the assets of the enemies. The mighty earth-sky began to walk quickly, fearful of the force of the fastened Indra. (9)
न्य॑स्मै दे॒वी स्वधि॑तिर्जिहीत॒ इन्द्रा॑य गा॒तुरु॑श॒तीव॑ येमे । सं यदोजो॑ यु॒वते॒ विश्व॑माभि॒रनु॑ स्व॒धाव्ने॑ क्षि॒तयो॑ नमन्त ॥ (१०)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
दीप्तिशाली एवं स्वयं रुका हुआ स्वर्ग इंद्र के सामने नीचा हो जाता है. धरती कामनापूर्ण नारी के समान इंद्र को आत्मसमर्पण करती है. इंद्र जब अपनी शक्ति को सभी प्रजाओं में मिला देते हैं, तब लोग बलशाली इंद्र के सामने क्रमपूर्वक झुकते हैं. (१०)
EN English Translation
The glorious and self-stalled heaven goes down before Indra. The earth surrenders to Indra like a desireful woman. When Indra merges his power among all the people, people bow down in order to the mighty Indra. (10)
एकं॒ नु त्वा॒ सत्प॑तिं॒ पाञ्च॑जन्यं जा॒तं शृ॑णोमि य॒शसं॒ जने॑षु । तं मे॑ जगृभ्र आ॒शसो॒ नवि॑ष्ठं दो॒षा वस्तो॒र्हव॑मानास॒ इन्द्र॑म् ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे इंद्र! हमने ऋषियों से तुम्हें मानवों में प्रमुख, सज्जनों का पालनकर्ता, पंचजनों के कल्याण के लिए उत्पन्न एवं यशस्वी सुना है. रात-दिन स्तुति करने वाले एवं अभिलाषाओं का वर्णन करने वाले हमारे पुत्र-पौत्र अतिशय स्तुतिपात्र इंद्र को प्राप्त करें. (११)
EN English Translation
O Indra! We have heard from the sages you as the chief among the human beings, the follower of the gentlemen, the creator and successful for the welfare of the Panchjans. Get our son and grandson Indra, who praises day and night and describes desires. (11)
ए॒वा हि त्वामृ॑तु॒था या॒तय॑न्तं म॒घा विप्रे॑भ्यो॒ दद॑तं शृ॒णोमि॑ । किं ते॑ ब्र॒ह्माणो॑ गृहते॒ सखा॑यो॒ ये त्वा॒या नि॑द॒धुः काम॑मिन्द्र ॥ (१२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे इंद्र! तुम समय-समय पर प्राणियों को प्रेरित करते हो एवं स्तुति करने वाले को धन देते हो, हमने ऐसा सुना है. जो स्तोता अपनी इच्छा तुम में स्थित कर देते हैं, तुम्हारे मित्र वे तुमसे क्या प्राप्त करते हैं? (१२)
EN English Translation
O Indra! From time to time you inspire beings and give money to the one who praises, we have heard this. What do your friends receive from you, the psalms who put their will in you? (12)
